Goodyear Tire Blowout
Goodyear Tire Blowout
So my rear/passenger OEM Goodyear RS-A completely blew out (sliced right down the middle, all around, and fell off the rim) while I was doing about 80 on the Parkway. It caused some damage to the rear fender and I think it may have mis-aligned one of my exhaust tips. Glad I got the car safely to the shoulder but I wouldn't expect this from a well-maintained tire with less than 24K miles on it. Has anyone else experienced problems with these tires?
Thanks
Thanks
Goodyear RS-A tires are the worst tires on the market right now IMO, and there are many horror stories on this message board. I replaced mine at 18,000 miles because I just couldn't stand them anymore. They are noisy, they wear quickly, they have no traction, and you can't keep them balanced. And obviously they spontaneously explode as you're going down the highway.
Same here, I replaced mine a week ago. I have 21k on my car and damn they suck. The dealer told me that they usually have complaints about the tires. Must be a cheap buy in for Nissan. My two rear tires where like 4/36 and the front 6/36 thread. I bought new tires for summer and when it rains since I got winter tires saved. These tires have a 3 out of 5 stars for ratings. i mean cheap $99 tires have better ratings than these. Its a great way to get you to your local nissan dealer to replace tires.
I went for Goodyear Eagle GT's. Got all four for $700 installed with warranty. I like them. Really heavy thread and they beat out competition in sun and rain.
We will see if my beast car is the one behind eating thread. RSA's have a thread rating of 260 vs some others that are double at least.

I wouldn't worry to to much, there are probably hundreds of thousands of these tires. There is no arguing that they are horrible tires, but if it were common that these tires exploded there should hopefully be an NTSB safety investigation, à la firestone and the explorer in the 90's, on our hands.

I agree these RS-As are not top notch, but it appears I am going to get around 40K on my OEM set, and I have not had even a whisper of a problem. When I have them rotated, I specifically ask that no balancing or realignment be done, as they are wearing very evenly, and the car drives with no vibration whatsoever.
My RS-As have been over 100MPH only a few times, as I will not be doing speeds like that on a public road where there is other traffic. But I catch myself doing an unwise 85 on the interstate more often than I should.
I suspect that many tires fail because of an earlier incident that weakened the tire's interior structure. I have had potholes, curbs, etc, do that to Pirellis, Yokahamas and Michelins.
