6generation vs 7 generation.
6generation vs 7 generation.
Do you guys feel like the 7th generation is an improvement or a fall back from the prior 6 generation what do yall like about the newest Maxima 2009 to present and what did you like better about the prior?

There are going to be a TON of different opinions on this topic, but I'm going to offer a few broad ones as a start.
Interior: 6th gen was not bad, but felt the 7th had a richer, better fit and finish. Seats felt better and the layout of the IP was cleaner looking.
Exterior: Styling wise, I thought the 7th gen had a more aggressive, bulldog stance to it. Bulge in the hood, large fenders, trimmed rear end and sharp front end.
Powertrain: engine and trans felt more responsive in the A35. when you want to get up and go in a hurry, it responds VERY quickly.
I was seriously considering the 07-08 Maxima SE. But after taking my 2010 home for a weekend to mull over the decision, I was sold.
The 7th generation the only bone to pick I have is the decreased dimensions I own a 06 SL and it doesn't feel too large or too small its just right. Then some of the features on the 6th generation like the power folding mirrors Nissan didnt offer it in the newest maxima. Other than complaint about the interior space I like the 7th generation, the 6th generation has questionable reliablity transmission being the biggest problem in 04 05,06 was a little bit better 07-08 too but overall with the 6th generation there's the look brings has a look that turns heads and stereotypically drive it down the street and everybody thinks your rich.

i have a 2011 sv... i came from a 2008 se
more rear space for the 6th... and probably overall interior room...
IMO, it feels like the 6th has a more responsive steering... just a bit...
way better interior for the 7th
better stock/OEM radio and sound system for the 6th
smaller and better turning radius for the 7th..
these are IMO...
but i was happy with my 08.. and I'm happy with my 11 as well...

For you I would say the transition from a 08 to an 11 is much easier because of the CVT, since Nissan started using it from 07, and I will admit that the turning radius on the 6th feels like that of a old school Cadillac I laugh at it sometimes because in the mall parking spaces I have to back up pull forward back up pull forward again to clear the spaces but the turning radius dont bother me that much, I just wonder if my 06 is gonna make it to 200 thousand miles based on whats been happening with this generation far as reliablility.
IMO 7th gens look phenomenally better than the previous generations, but I may be biased. I never bothered test driving a 6th gen so I can't compare power/handling, but it says a lot that I never bothered to test drive one..
Well the 7th gen looks meanier and more stylish so its a head turner over other cars in its class (camry, accord , etc). The 6th gen on the other hand was never really that much of a head turner unless it was modified, stock it wasn't mean or sporty looking thats why i asked what world your living in
The 09s to 11 are sexy thats for sure since i've had this 06 I can be pulling up at wal mart and you'll see a bunch of people staring I can only imagine what they'd do if I bought a 2012 and I was laughin because I like your post it was cool! I only been a member for a week.

The 6th gen was an ok car but it really was the Max that was highly criticized by the general public and car mags over any othe the other generations for the following reasons. Interior quality and quality in general was down (lots of exposed hard plastics especially in the center stack) and the design of the interior just didn't quite mesh for a 30K + car. The interior designs of previous gens and the 7th gen are much better. It wasn't as nimble and had worse braking performance and numbers in general than the previous gen etc etc, with all of that stuff and the competition getting better it lost alot of its image. With the 7th gen it back!

2000_MAXIMA_KING Whats your email i'll send you a picture of it, and 04 thru 08 nissan took alot of shortcuts, alot of shortfalls came of the 04 08 biggest being reliablity I got the SL its actually quite nice the interior.
My 06 was a great car, loved every moment, never had any of the problems some of the 6th Gen owners are having, even with 65k a lot of people asked me if it was new.
My 6th gen had some fit and finish issues, but a well put together car, best improvements I made to it was front and rear sway bars and brake upgrade.
Now my 09, seems to be an all around improved 6th gen, many things on the 7th gen just look like an updated 6th Gen, they even have a very similar feel when driving, they fixed a lot of the fit and finish issues but the 7th still has a couple, but I can't complain.

7th Gen ALL THE WAY.
I've been a fan of Maximas and Nissan as a brand since I was 14, now 22 with a 7th gen 2011 Maxima.
As noted above, this 7th gen beast (and a BEAST it is) turns heads of even people in high-end luxury cars! Not to mention, Chargers, Camaros, Mustangs and cars of the sort ALWAYS want to pick fights on the freeway (I respect that a Charger would SMOKE a stock Maxima, though)
The 6th Gen models looked.....fat.... and sluggish. I dont know how else to describe them. Kinda like a stretched out Beetle :P
^don't get me wrong though, in 08, I bought my 2001 Nissan Maxima and I was wishing I had one of those 08 models! I'm just comparing the two.
But 7th gen, for me, is the hands down winner. I'll sacrifice an inch of two of leg room in the back to have those bucket-seats people praise when they're IN THE BACK!

Also the Accord/Camry are not in the Maxima's class...not sure why people keep saying that lol
The only thing that I miss from my 6th gen is the power folding mirrors.
The 7th gen is definetely a head turner. I'm sure people said the same thing about the 6th gen when they first came out. Wait til the next gen comes out. I'm sure, and hoping that it'll make the 7th gen look like a pos.

7th Gen all the way. I personally will never buy the 6th Gen in my life. I test drove my friends 06 didn't like anything about it. Exterior is fugly looks like a spaceship, interior is a total Epic fail nothing good about it! The weirdest thing I found in that car is the Fof Lights lol they changed them in the 6.5 Gen. I needed a car that time and guess what I went for 04 Acura TL A-Spec. Faster, better looks interior exterior everything especially the speedometer gauges sexy! 6 Speed fully loaded with Navy I was sure happy! My friend sold it to me for 9,500 it had 88k miles on it and great condition I made that car into a full conversion of Type-S. I ended up selling it wanted my Maxima back :-). I am so happy with my 7th Gen I love it more than any of the cars that I owned. Sport Package Silver color slammed on CO dropped obviously, blacked out almost everywhere all stillen products except for Cat-Back. Vossen Rims, switched back to stock 19 to race ;-). I also happen to install Nitrous. This is all IMO and the beat Maxima's thatv were ever made are 02-03 6Speed or Auto and the 7th Gen I wish they have made a 6 Speed for this Gen the CVT is good but I want this car to show its true power in my control!
Now, go to the 6th gen subforum and ask the same thing... You may get different results.
2000_MAXIMA_KING I respect that at least u keepin it 100% about the pictures I was laughin hard , but naw man fareal though I hated the shortcuts nissan took in 2004 but i think by 2007 and 2008 things got better. But you know what yall the biggest complaint I get from people when they get in my car is it has too many buttons I hear that so much. 6th gen.

In the 7th gen forum.........bro, your fighting a loosing battle in here man LOL.

No, I'm not biased, I love both the 3rd and 7th gen(2 gens I don't own but still heart).
So yeah, not sure what it is about the 6th gens. The 6.5 gen was better, but still, no, not for me.
They just have this fat/bloated look and that interior in the 04-06 just did not work and you can definately see where they took shortcuts from 03. My wife had an 04 for 5 months and she didn't like it (people always told here she looked tiny in it), it was totalled in early 05. I asked here did she want another one she said naw I want a G35 or 03 Max like mine, she got the G and still has it.
I drove my 6th gen SL for five years. For me, the worst problem was the Patton Tank turning radius. I am in a situation where I spend hours at 10-25 MPH checking out homes on both sides of the street, and make many U-turns every day. The 6th gen left me hanging out to dry in the middle of the road many times, with oncoming traffic from both directions having to stop until I could get my tank turned. My 7th gen '09 turns in a far tighter radius.
The 6th gen had a tad more knee room in the rear seat area. In fact, it had more rear seat knee room than my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th gens.
The 6th gen was Nissan's effort at moving the Maxima from affordable 4DSC to a luxury direction. The 7th gen keeps the luxury touch, but takes the Maxima back toward the sporty side.
I love them both, but such things as the tighter turning radius, individually heated and air conditioned driver's seat, aggressive styling, ultra-deep glove box, double-panel roof, CD music box that holds the music of many dozens of CDs, outside mirrors that have turning lights, as well as drop to show curbs when in reverse, etc, etc, make the 7th gen the choice for me.
But both are very attractive and excellent vehicles.

Actually having owned a 6th Gen, I would take Kim Kardashian on her worst day, I prefer her giant rear with some cellulite, reminds me of the giant rear bumper on the 6th Gen, soft but firm and covered in orange peel
I would say 7thgen is better. For one, it is supposed to be an upgrade of the 6thgen, so it should be better. And Nissan had to put some few attractive things to keep up with other companies and make it different from the last generation. But I own a 6thgen and love it very much.
What I like about my 6thgen: heated seats, steering wheel and side view mirrors. Power folding mirrors. Tilting side view mirror when backing up. Rear sonar. And it looks good too, it has curves like a well proportioned size 16 lady with an hour glass figure. everything is well proportioned, if you know what I mean.
7thgen: Has gone to the gym, and looks toned up with some aggressive look. As far as options, I don't envy any option thatb 7thgen has that I don't have. For the 7thgen has the S model and SV. I will take my car any day over a S model with cloth seats, no fog lamps and no spoiler.
As far as performance goes, common now, I step on my car well enough. And since we have speed limits governing us on all freeways, I believe no 7thgen can out perform me. So, performance is the same according to me and our speed limited freeways. Besides, we all need rear sway bars and front strut bars to greatly improve our suspensions and handling.
So, in the battle of 6thgen vs 7thgen, 6thgen can comfortably stand by the 7thgen.
