Surface Rust all over!!!!

Hello Fellow Maxima Owners.

I'm currently in my 4th month of leasing a 2011 Maxima. After my last thorough wash, I noticed 100s, if not 1000s, of tiny surface rust spots all over the body of car. The car is brilliant white. I called Nissan to ask them about the issue, and they claimed it was due to brake dust from other cars. And often shows more in lighter cars. They can't be serious, right!?!? I've never heard of such a reason for surface dust on the body of car. I can understand the rims for sure, but not the body of a new car with 4000 miles.

They told me to essentially apply a cleaning wax. But I believe its an issue with the application of the paint and should be covered within my warranty.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? Do you have any thoughts? Looking forward to hearing back!

Thank you.
Rocco

Yes, I'm furious right now. I was calm on the phone, but after I researched his lame excuse, I'm quite certain its not from brake dust.

I'm taking the car there after work to show them.

i had the same problem last week i even made a topic here about it,seems that whatever it is it comes off with wax pre cleaner and after you re-wax its gone not sure why it shows up but its not brake dust and nissan will not help you anymore then telling you to use a clay bar and detail the car removes it.

Ok thank you! But I wonder if it will resurface? What product would you recommend?

If you see the rust spots on the hood (aluminum) or bumpers (plastic) it is not rust. It's something else.

I would guess you have rail dust or environmental dust. I use to detail cars back in the day and they would have specs of something embedded in the paint even on new cars. We would see this because they transport them by train, we called it rail dust. I would suggest you look at claying your car. It will lift the specs out of your paint and leave the surface super smooth. I think any auto detailing clay will work. Something like what is below. You should be able to find something like this locally.

Try it in a small spot. Make sure your car is clean before you do this. Use soapy water as a lubricant and wax the surface when you are done. You will be surprised how smooth this will leave the surface. If you try this let me know how it works.

I agree try washing the car well, then using a claybar kit like Meguiar's or Zaino's it removes contaminants that bond with the paint.

Nissan is mostly right. I used to detail cars for a living. The super small rust specs are material from the air that settle on the car with moisture and begin to rust. A good wax job will take care off your problem. I recommend meguires tech wax. Comes in a purple bottle.
