All season tire

Looking into changing my Rs-A to a decent all season tire... what are your fav's and why ? I live in Wisconsin and don't want the hassle of changing from winter to summer tire during year... that's why I need a good all season tire...

Many members including myself have the continental dws. They are highly rated on tirerack.com if you want to look at reviews.

^^ Continental DWS are considered to be one of the top if not the top all-season tire right now.

There are so many good choices now. I'm starting to see complaints about the DWS getting noisy as mileage goes up. If comfort is a priority than I would lean toward Michelin Primacy MXV4:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=112

If "at the limit" handling is more important - the top choices are all very good:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=147

There are good lower priced options as well, depending on your priorities. Every tire is a compromise of some sort - it's just a matter of determining what's important to you.

If you've got the coin, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus is a great tire. Probably some of the best dry/wet grip for an all-season. My dad actually runs these on his 2004 Corvette.

As others have posted, Conti DWS gets lots of love. Great tire for the money.

I just bought a set of the DWS from Discounttiredirect. Of course, the size determines the price, but I got my 245/35/20s for $740 - free shipping.

The General G-Max AS-3s are getting good reviews and are rated very comparable to the DWS.

How is handling on the the COnti DWS ? I am trying to fix the wandering issue on my max...
has anyone use the General Max and the Kumho ? The review seems pretty good... and I like the thread pattern too compared to the unconventional thread on the DWS..

I haven't had any wandering issues with mine. I just went through a set of Falken 452s (hated 'em) and couldn't wait to get my Contis. Just make sure you get an alignment done as well and all should be good.

If you're a fan of attacking twisty sections of road, the Conti DWS has a bit of sidewall flex before taking a bite. I went through 2 sets of Yokohama Avid V4's on my prior car and loved them. A bit noisy, but decent A/S tire all around.

I don't know of many folks personally who have been truly happy with any General or Kumho tire. For the money and performance though, the DWS is a tough A/S tire to beat.

btw.. I am looking at a really nice KMC wheel with 20" and +38 offset, it is available as 20-8.5 and 20-9.5 . Which one will work with the max ? Also which tire width should I use for each size ?

this is the wheel I am looking about

http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/KMC...eels-Rims.html

Also please somebody explain if bigger & wider wheel will improve handling on snow ?

You don't want a bigger and wider wheel on snow. Keep it 245 width or even a 235 would be best in the powder.

I've been running on 4Xs for about over a month, and so far I have 0 complaints about the tires. pretty good in slippery/wet weather. pretty good braking on wet & dry. cornering's much better (well anything is better than those POS Eagles )

like someone said earlier, if you have the $$, go for the Pilot Sports.

tire rack reviews have them significantly higher than the regular guys...any thoughts/feedback? anyone buy these for their ride?
check it out (per Tire Track)
Size: 225/45R18 95V XL
UTQG: 700 A A

also, thoughts on Tire Rack for honoring the tread warranties?

TIA

I agree with the Michelin Primacy MXV4. The tread has held up great and they look good. They are pricey though. 4 tires with hazard protection cost me about 1k at Sam's Club. But I am happy with them right now.

Very true. In Florida highway driving I have had two sets of the MXV4s, each lasting over 100,000 miles. Unfortunately, they no longer make that tire so I am now using its replacement (The Premier A/S) So far I really like its handling in the very wet driving of Central Florida and I think it handles better than the MXV4. I just don't know about its longevity yet...it come with 3/32 less tread on it (8/32) vs the 11/32 on the MXV4s, but hey, it is supposed to last longer as well.
