2012 by Friday?
Hey everyone,
I'm negotiating on a Black 2012 Maxima SV with Sport Package and may have it by the weekend. It's tough because the dealership is 2 1/2 hours away so I don't know what they'll value my current car at until I get there. I'm pretty excited to get this car. Currently looking at leasing as I don't put a ton of miles on my vehicles so I think that'll suit me best. Any advice on negotiating further? Thanks!

First, negotiate the sales price of the car out the door, then see what they offer for the trade (they will low-ball you). Make them do a simple listing of price-incentives-trade + tax on the difference between final price and residual. Otherwise, their financial printout will have your head spinning.
There are some dealers advertising an S model for $219 per month on a lease, although the fine print includes some dubious discounts (loyalty rebate, some other rebate with an unknown acronym, 1 at this price, etc etc, and no doubt no options at all)
If you get into the lease rate, you will have a better idea of what your payment should be based on those numbers. You can find the current rate on Edmunds...something like 0.0063 although I can't recall how to extrapolate the numbers.
btw, Nissan Leasing is structuring the deals to favor 39-months at 12,000 miles per year. Less miles/different term length works out worse in any other scenario. I only drive 6k per year on average, so I'll have to make a decision at the end of the deal on what I want to do.

Unless you plan on trading in 2-3 yrs stay away from leasing. Essentially all your doing is paying rent on the car. Next watch on pricing. I just got mine the saturday before Easter and got the premium w/o nav. with spoiler installed for 37K out the door. Yes I got a hell of a deal and a damn good deal on my trade in too. But use it for reference. Car stickered for over 43 with all the options and destination bs. I actually liked my dealer too. It was a great experience.
Exactly, never negotiate the price of your trade in before dealing with them over the car you want. Always have a price for the trade in and don't back down on it. If they don't like it tell them your walking. Negotiating is tough, if they want to sell the car make it on your terms.
Well I only put about 6k miles a year on my vehicles. With the lease I can get an SV with the premium package for less than I'm paying on my car now. I have 2 years left of payments on my maxima now and it's starting to rust. I'm afraid if I wait any longer it will drop in value because of that. Im not in love with the idea of financing the car for $600/month while barely putting any miles on it. I also like to get a new car every 3 to 4 years. Leasing isn't for everyone but I think I'm a good candidate for it.

I actually enjoy the "game" a bit and if you approach it that way with a "I dont need a new car anyway" attitude you can keep the stress levels down
a) Be prepared to go home in your old car-it may happen
b) Have in mind the price you are willing to pay +/- a certain dollar amount-stick with it!
c) Treat sales with respect like you would a wild animal (no disrespect meant) be kind but realize they are not on your side
d) Ask if the sales manager can sit with you and your sales rep instead of the silly back and forth game they play
e) If you cant get your price, ask if they can instead throw in some incentive that may be good for you but not cost them as much. Example, "I will do the deal for 1k more than I wanted to spend only if you give me the maintainence package..."
f) Let them know you have shopped around
Good Luck!
I can't decide. Silver, white or black? My current Maxima is a Winter Frost color and I love that color on the new model because it accentuates the panoramic roof beautifully. I like black because it's sleek and hides a lot of imperfections over time. What do you all think?

I think since I already have a Maxima in Winter Frost I'm going to go with Silver. Black is nice but I think a lighter color accentuates the lines on the car better and looks better with the dual sunroof. Plus black is a nightmare to keep clean.
I sell cars. I think its funny to read all of this. I want to make money and yes I am paid on commission. Its better to move units then make a killing on one car. at the end of the day i would prefer to sell 1 car then no cars. I got a huge deal on my car from my experience from selling cars. Although i have only sold cars for 1 year, you should be up front with what you want to accomplish, give your salesman a shot to earn your business. keep in mind that you should look at trade in values for your trade. dont look up retail values for trades. and no, not every car is in excellent condition. I have yet to take a car on trade that was considered "excellent"
I sold nissans for 3 years its ****ty business but i used to see as if dont make money on you someone else will rather be me. Every customer is different some cars you make money on and some you lose i used to sell 25 cars a month Its the business you got know yout stuff before you go into a showroom and if you dont your getting robbed in a nice way lol
That isn't entirely true. Most people who buy a car get a 5-year loan and as soon as it's paid off, they sell it and buy another one. In a lease, the bank is basically saying, "When this term is over, we're going to buy the car back from you at this set price. You don't have to worry about selling it. And since we know it's still going to be worth this much at the end, your payment will be much lower than if you bought it outright." That's why there is a mileage restriction on leases, because if you go over the mileage estimate, the car will be worth less than what they projected when you leased it. The only time a purchase is superior is if you plan to keep the car longer than the loan term or if you drive a whole lot of miles above average. I personally purchase because I have two cars and I don't want two payments. Once my wife's van was paid off, I bought my Max. When the Max is paid off, I'll replace the van, etc.

I bought my 2012 SV with premium and cold weather packages, floor/trunk mats, splash guards, spoiler, etc..basically everything but nav for $32,500. I bought the first one in the area back in November when they still had a ton of 2011's on the lot to get rid of. If they don't give you the deal you want-walk away and go to the next dealer. Sticker was $38,885 if that helps.
I currently have an '06 Maxima SE with 72,000 miles and I would describe the condition as between fair and good. They are offering me about $10,700 with trade which I find to be pretty fair. That's going to bring the lease amount to exactly what I pay for my Maxima now. It's a 2012 SV with Sport and Technology Package. Still trying to decide if I want to opt for the Premium package with the Tech package for a little more. Any input on experiences with each would be greatly appreciated.
Saturday, I will be taking possession of a Silver 2012 Nissan Maxima SV Premium & Tech package. Finally got all of the details worked out and going to pick it up early Saturday. I'm so jacked, I can't wait! I'm looking forward to learning all about the technology included with this car. I'll be sure to post pics once I get it home.
Leasing is the way to go. People say its like paying for a car you won't own but when you lease you pay only near quarter of the value. My 2012 max we pay 250 a month for 39 months so in the end thats less than 10,000 dollars as opposed to having to pay its 40,000 dollar price tag.. In the end you can buy it out or just get a new car.. Who doesn't love new cars?

I like not having to worry about paying out of pocket for repairs and getting a great ride for an affordable price. At the end of the lease, it's up to me whether I just return the car, buy it, or do the traditional financing on another vehicle. By that time my lease is up, there will be a redesigned Maxima
