guys with 19" sport rims in the city

are there any tips you guys can give me to make the ride a little less bumpy cause i drive in queens and brooklyn and manhattan on the weekends a lot and the roads are horrible full of pot holes and im looking to do something cause the goodyear low profile tires are a nightmare, so any suggestions? i mean i love the rims and wont sell them but like im saying tire brands? or different tire pressure? anything please

This is what I did.

I got new tires: 255/40/19. It gives a little more sidewall than the stock 245/40/19.

And I bumped my psi to 36, instead of stock 32. I love my ride. Do like me and see.

In case you are worried if 255/40/19 would be good on the 19 stock rims, I have a thread about it. Check it out. And also, I am on 255/40/19 and they fit PERFECT on these rims and I have done 120-130mph more times than I can count with these tires, so, know they wouldn't give you any problems incase you are worried. Crusing, pot holes and speed bumps are not as harsh as when I had the 245/40/19 on these rims.

look like a drunk driver swerving around those pot holes! haha

But seriously, the favored tires here are normally going be the Continental DWS and the Michelin Pilot Sports. I am running the Falken 452s and I am extremely happy with them over the stock tires I had. I actually will miss them when it comes time to take them off for the winter stocks

i have had the stock 19s on all winter and i really cant complain about the ride at all, but i guess after being on 22s all summer it is a little more comfortable. potholes are the enemy believe me and the mayor is more concerned with bikers then he is with car so it doesnt look ike he is going to be jumping on the dot to fill them any time soon so be careful... good luck..

Thanks for the info but going back to pettitfreremaxima i asked a mechanic and tire expert about getting bigger or smaller tires or rims and they told me it will give my car a problem because of the sport suspension and i will be doing wheel alignments every other week just to keep the tire pressure light off do you get any warning lights or wheel jerking?

I just avoid potholes (yes, I'm that guy swerving around everything in my lane ).

Keep your tire pressures around 34-35 psi and just avoid major pimples in the road and you should be ok. Switching from the RS-A's to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports made a HUGE difference in ride quality. Hard to believe a hardcore summer tire rides better than an all season

They're a decent summer-only tire for the money, but you could step up to the Conti DW for around $100 more.

Ghozt has them on his car and he's been very pleased with them so far. Great grip in the rain.

YEA THEY ARE WRONG...i mean you are not planning on running tires with a completely off the rockers circumference from what is stock....if u get TMPS sensors mounted in the wheels you are planning to use u will be fine...the sport suspension has nothing to do with anything in terms of switching wheels and tires....as long you u keep a somewhat similar circumference tire all is good...I have been switching wheels and tires every season for years on all my cars...

Now raising and lowering your car if you have adj. suspension is a whole different animal

Dude, I did not go to school for that, as the mechanic did. I am in the medical field, but I am very smart and educated to have read a lot around on the internet and on here, made my own research and even did what I just told you on my car. So, I am 100% sure this would be very ok. He might be talking based on "by-the-book" or what he learned in school. Just as some mechanics and websites told me 255/40/19 would not be safe on our 19x8 rims. but I did my own research and felt comfortable and I did it.

The tires work great! No complaints here. I will also suggest that if you love your car like I do my car, I suggest you do what I did extra.

I have a LIFETIME allignment from Firestone, the first month I bought my car brand new.
I also have LIFETIME balance and rotation for all my 4 tires, the first month I bought my car. And when I bought these new tires, they come with same package of lifetime.
Then I use full synthetic (Mobil1 EP with same filter) and change my oil every 10,000 miles.

So, to match my schedule of every 10,000 miles oil change, I do my allignment and balance and rotation on the same day I change my oil. So, my tires have even wear and are doing great.

My setup of 255/40/19 on the 19x8 and 36psi has been EXCELLENT. And like I said before, I cruise very well with this set up and when I step it up to 120 or 130mph, car still feels very safe to me. So, your mechanic is wrong, according to me. But if he went to school for that, I cannot "professionally" argue with him. But if it was how to maintain and save my patient's life on a mechanical ventilator, I would talk blood gases and other stuffs with him.
