2012 Maxima SE Climate control resets

Is this normal? I set my climate control to say 70f. When I turn the car off then back on the climate control is off and when I turn it back to auto it defaults back to 75f. My wifes QX56 and I believe my 08 Altima did not do this.

Thank you

Took delivery of my 2012 Maxima yesterday and noticed this behavior. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

I'm pretty disappointed in my dealer. I was at the dealership for 6 hours and I walked in knowing what car I wanted. Granted it was pouring rain all day, but the car was not properly detailed, had no floor mats, didn't take off this dealer air conditioning setting, etc. Sitting around doing nothing for hours, then my salesman says "I have to show you around the dealership...this is the waiting area, this is the service manager..." Then an hour after I signed off on everything, "I have to go through the owners manual with you..." You couldn't have done that three hours ago???

What should be an enjoyable experience (yay, I got a new car) turned ugly (just let me get the hell out of here).

But I'm just venting, which I guess is appropriate for an air conditioning thread!

You have my sympathy. That is unusual. At least it would be unusual at most dealers. I hope there were some folks out sick or something to justify their taking all day to get the car to you.

In my case, I make a carefully constructed email offer to my internet manager, listing the dealer's cost and the MSRP for the car and each option, the 'holdback', the advertising kickback, and the profit I feel they will accept. She knows from dealing with me for almost two decades that If she turns down my offer, I will simply wait a month and resubmit the same offer.

When she emails me that the offer is acceptable, we set a pickup day and time. At that time, I head to the dealer, she has the paperwork ready to sign, we take around 20 minutes to do all the paperwork (goes fast because I always pay the full price of the car via cash at the time of purchase), I give her the keys to my trade-in (always a clean cream-puff) and we go for a drive.

During that drive, we take turns driving while she shows me everything that has changed since my previous generation Maxima. Then she buys me a tank of premium gas, we stop for a quick celebratory meal (she pays), and I drop her off back at the dealer and ride off into the sunset.

I must say that I enjoy this routine FAR more than the manner in which I bought cars from 1948 until 1995.

Who wouldn't want that experience, just forgot to mention the happy ending part lol Jk. The fact here is there was a relationship built and that is where having a good transparent relationship between buyer/seller pays off for both parties!

I tend to form a good relationship with the tech guys and it seems to work well for me in the long run.

Ps I thought buying my car from a rookie sales rep would be fine and help throw him a bone, lesson learned there.

For what it's worth, it sounds like they were trying to make sure you had a good experience. Here's my interpretation of the events:
1) 6 hours to buy a car from walking in to driving away is about an hour and a half to two hours too long, but it may be that they were busy with other stuff.
2) Some dealerships want to show off the different areas of the dealership because they want you to be comfortable there, know where you go for service, know where you go for parts, know where the waiting area is, etc. It's an attempt at good customer service. Next time, tell them you don't really care and ask them to stop the "tour".
3) They go through the operation of the vehicle because Nissan makes them. Nissan wants you to know how to operate many of the functions of the vehicle before you take delivery. This way, you get comfortable with certain things or at least know they exist. As a side note, I know a guy who had a Maxima and didn't know until after he got rid of it that his car had the steering wheel heater. This part of the sale is typically done after you've done all the paperwork and the deal is done. Part of it is supposed to happen in your actual vehicle as a demonstration of certain functions. When I drove off the lot, my phone was paired, my phonebook was already in memory, I knew how to work the radio and climate control, and I had a general understanding of the features.

You think 6 hours of dealership time is too long when you bought your car? A few days before I got mine I spent 6 hours at a VW dealerships getting jacked around and they wouldn't give me my keys back until I spoke to the sales manager. I almost called the cops, I missed a half day of work (legal work) that I had to make up by staying until 9 pm and then 8 pm the next day, and I didn't buy from them (obviously).

It sucks, but I've never bought a new car from any dealership where it took less than 3 or 4 hours....

Glad you got your new ride. Sorry you didn't enjoy the experience. You should get a call/email from the dealership and Nissan where you can vent your spleen.

:-)
