Battery Issues? and 12v not working?
Battery Issues? and 12v not working?
So I was trying to program my homelink today in the garage and I had the car in the on position with the AC running and the HID's were on. While programming, the car was probably on for like 3-4 min and then the AC began turning on/off and the finally stopped, and then the dashboard and center stack screen turned off.
Assuming my battery was draining, I tried starting the car, didn't work. Tried turning it off, stuck in the on position (even after inserting the key in that socket). Tried turning lights off, wouldn't turn off. The only things that did turn off automatically were the HID's.
Now I know I shouldn't have kept it on all that for so long, but 3-4 min is not that much, and the car completely dying on me where no function is usable is really weird, specially since I only have 14k mi. Had to jump start it again.
Those with older models and those who've suffered battery drains often, is this natural?

Get your battery checked, I have had mine replaced already on my 11 max, you may be able to get full warranty on it, i did, nissan changed the replacement criteria for them. i wont hurt to talk to your dealership.
Starr is right about the 12V outlet being a fuse thing.
Sonomamax is right about getting your battery checked.
This 7th gen Maxima is absolutely LOADED with things that suck electricity, especially the AC. Unfortunately, the OEM battery that comes with this car is marginal. Folks here on the ORG that have left nothing on but their car radio have ended up draining their battery in minutes. Leaving the air conditioning on without the motor running should absolutely drain these OEM batteries in minutes. Also having the lights on would speed up the draining.
Remember that, contrary to common belief, although engines are hard to crank in very cold weather, it is actually summer heat that destroys far more batteries than cold weather. And we are having the hottest summer of my very old life. I lived in Arizona for years, and never saw the misery we have had here south of Atlanta recently (108 degrees both Friday and Saturday at our place).
I noticed very quickly after the '09 Maximas came out that folks were having battery problems when leaving the motor off while diddling with their car. As a result, I turned off the 'delayed off' for the headlights, and NEVER turn anything electrical on unless the motor is running. As a result, I am still on my original battery, while most '09 Maximas (and lots of '10 Maximas and some '11 Maximas) have replacement batteries by now.
You may be able to recharge your battery and have it still work for awhile. If not, then, unless the dealer will replace your battery for free, I would replace it with a higher quality battery.

I agree, I had to replace mine. I was getting tired of the battery dieing when I would leave the doors open while towel drying the door jambs and such after a good wash. So being stranded by a "new" car in a busy car wash was enough of an embarrassment. That was about the 4th time I got stranded. From there I immediately went and replaced with an aftermarket battery. I did not want a warranty replacement from Nissan, because I did not want another crappy excuse for a battery in the car. I have had no problems since.

I put the jumpers on and let it sit for a few minutes. then the vehicle woke up, and I was able to jump start the motor. I went for a drive to re-charge battery. Battery checked out next day within the correct range for amps. Possibly the system saved the battery.
