2012 SV Premium iPod touch 4g doesn't work

I've searched through the forums to try to find another person with my exact problem and I haven't found it. I've seen many with other issues with their iPods (lot's of charging problems with the 09 Maximas of course) but I haven't seen my problem.

I just upgraded from my 2003 Maxima SE to a new 2012 SV Premium without Nav and I tried to hook up my iPod touch 4g running with the latest software. I've used both an after market iPod cable and the original OEM iPod cable that came with the iPod with no luck.

When I plug it in and swap to the iPod input (or maybe it swaps when I plug it in, I don't remember) the car recognizes it and starts the iPod playing whatever it was last playing. Unfortunately the audio is coming through whatever it was playing through before connecting it to the iPod cable. If I had headphones plugged in the audio would come through the headphones. If the iPod was playing with it's built in speaker, the sound would come out there. The iPod does get charged when plugged in to the Maxima but the sound isn't getting sent to the Maxima.

The screen comes up to the screen with the left side having a grayed out menu button and a play/pause button while the right side has the menu listing 10 options: Now playing, Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, Podcasts, Genres, Composers, Audiobooks, and Shuffle Songs. I'm able to drill into those options and it eventually (after 5 or 6 seconds) comes back with what is in that category (artists brings up the list of artists on my iPod) and I can drill into those and select a song and it does indeed start playing that song (but again, not through the car's stereo...through the headphones or iPod speaker). Also while I can select songs and make them play using the car's stereo, the play/pause button doesn't work. When I try to pause the playing song it just goes white for a few seconds and either nothing happens or it restarts the song.

If I select Now Playing it just takes me to a screen with the menu button, the play/pause button (which still doesn't work) and a 2/2. The pause button still does nothing except go white for 5-30 or so seconds.

I also happen to have an older iPod video and when I connect that to the same cable it reads the information from the iPod MUCH quicker and comes up with the same list and starts playing the audio but through the car's stereo. It also comes up with the artist, album, and song information along with the time in the song, the number the song is of the current set of songs, and the shuffle and repeat status (as well as the menu and play/pause buttons, which actually work). The same is true of my wife's newer iPod classic.

It seems that this is just something with the iPod touch, or at least with the latest version of it. The car's manual lists it being compatible with the iPod touch 2.1 which I'm assuming means the second generation iPod touch. I can't believe that I'm the only one trying to get an iPod touch 4g to work with this car's stereo. Has anyone else seen this?

Oh, and my iPod touch works just fine with my old car's aftermarket stereo that has iPod integration as well as an iPod boombox and an iPod clock radio.

No one else has seen this?

I was scheduled to take my car into the dealership to have this looked at and it hadn't worked correctly for me a single time. Of course when I jump in the car to take it there to have them look at it it worked perfectly...so I didn't have them look at that. It hasn't worked correctly again. BAH!

Try doing a hard reset on your IPod. Hold the home button and the lock button on the top simultaneously until the screen goes blank and them pops up the apple logo.

Or try doing a full restore to your iPod via iTunes.
