Can't get myself to love the CVT
I test drove the new Altima V6 and the 2012 Maxima yesterday while at the dealership.
I could not tell one bit of difference between the CVT in the Altima or Maxima nor could I tell any difference between my late build 2010 Max and the 2012.
I have owned a Nissan CVT product for the last 6 years and they have improved the response of the CVT but it seems they have leveled off in what they can do.

I actually hope that the revised CVT in the Altima is a big improvement, as that would mean better performance for our beloved Maximas in the next gen.
Can I ask if the Altima you drove had a 2.5 or a 3.5 engine? (Wait, scratch that, you said it was the V6. Guess that means it was a pretty direct comparison. Good information for us. Thanks.)

Very interesting. Sounds like you are actually quite experienced with the CVT, and there wasn't a difference that you noticed.

I test drove the V-6 Altima and selected to go with the 2012 Maxima because of better steering (same as 370Z) better traction with sport 19" tires and better cornering and it feels like it is riding on rails. I did rent a 2.5 liter Altima last week and found it pleasurable to drive. The seats are more comfortable than the maxima and for a non sports oriented driver it beat tha Accord and Camry 4 cylinders. Could be my next second car
IMHO, the cvt isn't bad. I came from a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant to a 2010 Maxima last month and at first it takes some time getting use to the transmission but I love it. It sounds different but I love the engine note my maxima makes at higher rpm's. I'm averaging 22.3 mpg and that's even better then what I was getting in my 4 cylinder galant (19mpg). What I can suggest to u is just keep driving it and hopefully you'll come to like it
