Broken shift rod

Hey I have a serious problem, I have an 09 maxima and it was involved in an accident. In the accident the shift rod that goes down into the transmission snapped off. I called the dealers and they are saying that I need to replace the transmission at $2200 plus a $800 core. Anybody have any suggestions

Thanks for your reply but insurance is not an option. I bought the car from an auction

You could go the wreckers route (if there are enough wrecked 7th gen maximas in supply) if you don't want to pay new with dealer prices.

As long as it's warrantied and is cheaper with shipping than the dealer price then maybe it's a consideration.

Also to consider, new is unabused...you can not know how the previous owner treated the last car(transmission).

edit-out of curiosity I searched and a used 2009 max cvt was as low as $1,600.00.

I was hoping that I would be able to find a shift rod and have a transmission specialist replace it.

go to a tranny shop. call around tranny shops have to be working on cvt's by now as they've been out for a few yrs. If it's only the shift rod than I dont see why the whole tranny needs to be replaced.. maybe it has to be taken out of the vehicle... and even if the tranny fails it's a different part from the shift rod.... just take it to a tranny shop.
