I get average around 23 MPG with mostly backroad driving here in SE PA... Also if you tend to keep the RPMs under 2,000 it can help get you better MPG

Sometimes I feel like I go racecar too much. Fuel efficiency still isn't bad though, I avg 21 mpg. When I exercise restraint I get almost 26.

Overall average (the one you cant reset in the odometer area) I am getting about 20.9. I reset my trip computer (I do all city driving) and I am getting about 18.8 (everyday I warm up my car for about 4-5 mins before driving so those 4-5 mins clock in at 0mpg for calculations I believe)

Keep in mind that the MPG depend on the ambient temperature, tire pressure, speed, wind, how much weight you carry in the car, how fast you accelerate and the degree of stop/go traffic. What others are telling you may not apply to you but 19 MPG is reasonable for mixed city driving
PS I will not warm the car for 4-5 minutes before driving, it is a waste. It is best to start the car and drive at moderate speed until the engine warms up.

BOOOO!!! Driving the Maxima under 2K rpm is like napping. I suggest keeping it above 3k rpm at all times

I used to just start it up and go in my old car, but since I got the 7th gen I cant get myself to do that. Starting it up for 4 mintes (and letting it get warm even on the inside when its cold outside) doesn't really hurt; I just dont like the sound of a cold engine and I don't trust myself to drive at moderate speeds lol

I get about 18.3 mpg. I've gotten 21.5 off a tank once by consciously driving it as gingerly as I could. It wasn't worth it except for learning what my best hope is if gas ever gets too high. At 18.3mpg, I can gun it whenever I want but I don't have to floor it to get amazing acceleration.

I don't think this car was meant to be floored. It's pretty crazy when you're going WOT and before you know it, you're up to 100, and still climbing fast.

just went 800 miles round trip...@65 mph i get 29-32 mpg, depending on the terrain...i think its achievable to get more if you got flat landscape...i was in MA/nNY so all up and down

The manual says to wait 30 seconds, and I must admit, that's hard for me. In my 2007 sonata, I would have it in reverse before my seatbelt was on. If it's cold, I give it several minutes, but if not, I limit it to 30 seconds but drive it under 2k rpm until the temp gauge moves towards the middle.

I get 27.5 across the board on Regular no less! I keep my foot out of it for sure and have seen 31 mpg in interstate cruising. My 2010 has 17 K on it so far

Is that number coming from multiple tanks and actually doing the math? Or from the reading of the little dash display thing?

According to my records for this year alone, my Maxima averages 20.27mpgs. Last year it was 19.83mpgs. Maximum I've ever pulled was about 27.75mpgs. Minimum 16.10mpgs (I guess I was in racecar/******* mode).

I run the calculations after each gas fill up and track my mileage (writing down the odometer reading on the receipt at each fill-up). Miles traveled between fills divided by gallons filled.

Same.

There are actually several iPhone apps that will track this stuff for you, some are free. I've had Car Minder ($1.99 IIRC) for about a month and have no bugs so far. It will also track other things such as oil changes, tire rotations, etc.

I probably should use my "smart phone" more so like that. Been using an excel spreadsheet on Google Drive however. Seems to be working out okay so far. Speaking of apps, I picked up Torque and have been playing with that recently. I'm sure there's a way to integrate the data on that onto a fact sheet or data dump of sorts.

I felt (feel) the same way. There was a significant drop in my fuel economy when I switched from a 2003 (28-29mpg) to a 2010 Maxima (23-24mpg). Now of course there are a ton of reasons for the discrepancy between the two vehicles, but there are also a lot of plausible reasons for the differences you're seeing in your Gen 7 and other Gen 7's.

First off, you simply cannot trust the mpg reading that you're seeing on the indicator. It is no where near as accurate as a pencil/paper method.

Secondly, there are so many other variables involved in why there is a difference between one person and another (fuel type, temperature, road conditions, driving style, phase of the moon, etc).

In the end I think it is something that comes down to personal driving style and finding some kind of sweet spot that you are comfortable with. I've only had my 2010 for a month and already I can predict the types of scenarios that are contributing, positively and negatively, to my fuel economy.

My advice to you would be to simply experiment between fill-ups. But try to be as consistent as possible in any given tank of gas.

Since I often romp on the gas pedal, my average has been pretty low, but I did have a good barometer in a 200 mile pure highway ride around 65-70mph on cruise. There were some hills in a portion of it. My average was still only 22mpg on premium gas.
I figured it would better, but oh well.

I drive it like its been stolen, and I average around 20 mpg's. I certainly didn't buy it for the mpg's though.

I do the math for all fuel added/miles driven. The dash indicator is not that far off though. My only non stock addition is a K and N air filter installed when the car was new.

I'm cursed at 19.8, but when I first got it I was getting 21-22 but I wasn't as used to the car so I was more... reserved.

I thought the Maxima got a little better MPG than what's being reported here. From the replies here, it seems the median mpg is around 21-22. And those of you mentioning "racecar mode", I fully understand as I have a birth defect... a heavy right foot. But I come by it naturally as both of my parents had the same issue.

My computer is showing 25.4 mpg (2012 Max with 4200 miles, premium gas only). Checking it manually, I have seen 22 - 27mpg so I think the computer is close. My driving is 70% highway, 30% city and I do like to hammer on it occasionally.

Last fill up for me ...

Dash indicator was 26.3mpg. Avg MPH was around 41.1
Drove 419 miles, filled w/ 17.232 gallons of 93 Octane.
Actual mpg was 24.315.

The dash indicator can be easily manipulated depending on driving style to be over or under the actual mpg.

In 10,875 miles to date with my 2012, I've averaged 22.39MPG. That is about 50/50 street and highway.

Totals to date
Gas purchased: 500.74 gallons
Average price paid: $4.03/gal
Cost per mile for fuel only: $0.181/mi

So far according to the aCar app on my phone I am averaging 26.285MPG. 43.27 gallons of gas so far. It looks like the most gas I have put in at one time has been 15.00 gallons.

I have only put 3 tanks in the car so far. I bought it as a daily driver but cannot bring myself to drive it to where I work and park it out there with all of those crazies who don't give a rats azz about your car. I am not ready for door dings and stuff just yet.
