Steering Wheel Motor

Well, if finally happened, never had any issues but a few days ago everytime I got into the car and the steering wheels comes down it was making a popping noise then finally this morning it just stayed up and sounded like gears grinding in there, taking it to the dealer tomorrow, I got 66k on it thank god I got the Nissan 100k warrenty!

Unfortunatly I got a call from the Stealership and they said that my warrenty would not cover that and I had to get the GOLD warrenty, I can't believe this BS, i'm sooo frustrated, my car has 65k on it. If I could turn it off i would but the wheel is stuck all the way up and I can't even bring it down manually, the motor just makes a grinding sound. They have sent this to the Regional manager to see what he can do. They want to charge me like 450 bucks for this!

Yeah, sounds like you got the "bend over warranty" (no offence). At the first sign of popping or grinding you gotta get that wheel where you want it for driving and then just disable it.

I do hope you have a good outcome on this. At the least they should get it re-positioned so it's drivable. You should stress the fact that it's a safety issue in your attempt to get resolution. Let us know how it goes either way.

450 isnt terrible, they charge some people 800+

have the owner define why your current coverage does not cover it and why? does the coverage not cover mechanical motors?

Yes they say it only covers certain things in the Steering, and unfortunatly the tilt motors is not one of them, they said if I had the GOLD warrenty that it would have, I was not even aware that they had a GOLD, when I got the warrenty I asked for the best warrenty and the salesperson said this is it and they covered everything like the factory warrenty does! Hogwash!! still have yet to hear from the Regional Rep

I'd bring this up and get the salesman involved. Worth a shot. I'm going to look more into the actual part. As far as I know the motors themselves aren't available for purchase and it's the entire motorized column you have to buy. If we can find the individual motors I'm sure someone here can figure out how to replace them and write a DIY.

unfortunatly the dealership I bought the Warrenty from is no longer around, lol
I got a call from the regional rep and she said they can't do nothing for me, so I expressed my dissappointment and that I would not purchase another Nissan again and that I hope it was worth loosing a customer for 450 dollars, didn't sound like she really cared, oh well.
I am actually going to call the GM at the Dealership that my car is being serviced at and see if the Dealership itself can help me out in any way!

SO I get a call from the Dealership telling me my car was ready last monday the 31st, I went to go pick it up on wednsday the 2nd and I pay go to my car try to bring the wheel down, and it litteraly goes down like 2 inches and stops, I'm thinking to myself, you've got to be Fu%&ing kidding me, lol. So they proceed to look at it and they are trying to basically tell me that thats how the fix is. At this point I went off asked to speak to the Service manager and told him the whole story, he said he is going to call Nissan And get back with me today, he says that my whole steering Column might need to be replaced, if thats the case that would be covered under my warrenty then, we will see. Anyone else have this issue after motor replacment? What a Joke!!

it usually starts making noise before it just dies. mine was squealing every time it moved, but it still worked. funny thing is when I took it to Nissan they gave me my car back and the thing was stuck all the way up. they let me know they would have to order a part (entire steering column) but they definitely broke it more...haha worthless. it came a few days later and it took a few hours but under warranty it was painless. now that im out of warranty i just disabled it cause i dont really care enough about it auto-tilting to deal with it breaking again

This is the Tilt motor
Part numbber is Nissan 48990-9N06E
http://www.everythingnissan.com/Niss...89909n06e-.htm

Im looking for the telescoping one (which rarely gives out compaired to the tilt)

I have the instructions files somewhere in my house on how to replace it from ALLDATA, its step by step, picture for picture. I dont want to get in trouble for posting ALLDATA publicly info besides, I can take the 45 steps and turn it into 20

I will be doing a DIY on how to install this and provide my own pictures and instructions, but im working on securing funds first. Unfortunately hard times put a hold on alot of things for me. Hopefully by the end of the month or early Feb I can complete this.

Awesome man, looking forward to it. Is it the same motor for both up/down and in/out? Or is this just the up/down motor?

The in/out is what they call the telescoping motor, ill see if i can find a part number. I know that one is more PITA but good thing for us, it hardly ever goes out *knock on wood*

Btw guys, the Muranno and G/M/Z motor fits as well. Just diffrent parts numbers. Ima get with my parts department and see what they can do on pricing for Gs motors, maybe we can get in on a group buy

Kind of too late for me, but Im sure it would help a lot of people. UPDATE:
Now the dealership is talking about maybe they would have to replace the entire steering column. I have been without my car now for 2 weeks and this is getting ridiculous. I have put in a call to Consumer affairs to try to have them get me a rental cause this is getting out of hand.
You know the funny thing is that the service Douche was trying to tell me that i can put the wheel down the 2 inches of travel and put my seat up to compensate, I just looked at him like WTF? (vision in my head was knocking him the F*&k out for his stupidity) It is just amazing how they will try to justify some things!

Please forgive me for all the Venting, I am really a very nice person, but when you insult my inteligence I tend to lose it, lol

No problem, I've been told to "shrink" for many years, yet as much coffee as I have had, can't get below 6'4". It is amazing what some will say to justify their positions.

yeah I was going to refer to it as telescoping but then realizing I didnt have the official name for the other one so decided to describe what they do haha

im really looking forward to the DIY on this, I've taken apart some of my steering column when I installed my GTR paddle shifters but didnt go much farther than that. also encouraging to know the motor is sold separately. i read in a few other threads that you can grease the gears up and it will extend the life and reduce noise - havent tested that though

FINALLY got my car back, Oh how I have missed her! So the dealership told me that it was a faulty part and when they replaced it again it was fine, then later in the day I get a call from the Regional Rep that tells me that the dealership had initially ordered the wrong part and then they got the right part and all worked out. I just can't believe that they would order then wrong part and try to pass it off as fixed!!
So I paid 537.00 for the part and a Trans Flush, and Nissan Rep gave me a 100 dollar credit at the service department! Not bad I guess, but not sure if it was worth the time not having my car!!

Well, 1st week i had my car, I purchased it with 13,600km's on it and when 13,800kms rolled around my steering motor went. It started making the dreadful grinding noise and so forth (both ways). Luckily Nissan replaced it under warranty for me.
