Brake Life

Just curious to see how much life others are getting out of their brakes. I have 34,XXX on my 2010 sv premium and was just told my pads have greater than 50% life left.

There is no easy answer. Brake life is a function of how you drive. My Buick has the original brakes with 48K miles becuase it is mostly highway driving. City driving with frequent start/stpos takes a toll on brake life.

i changed my rotors/brake pads out around ~40k just cause i think the oem brakes suck. everything was vibrating too which was annoying.

totally depends on how you drive though etc.

Totally agree...it is all about how you drive. Coming up on 200,000 miles and still on original brakes.

No...way..? Are you the downshifting master? Wow. 200,000 is some kind of record. My calipers don't even last that long. Lol

Going on 23k miles. And this is with 95% city driving.

Best brakes BY FAR I have ever had on a car. Better than all my previous Maxima generations. Very smooth, never a chatter, squeal or (worst of all) that pulsating that tells me something is not exactly right.

Near 36K, and service tech says I still have around 40% pad left. And that is with lots of local driving.

on a 7th gen? Clearly, you haven't ever used the brakes you've just been driving continuously.

I have 67K on my original brakes. I will probably be replacing in the coming month but, I was sort of impressed with them. Also, I'm still rolling on the original RSA's.

I drive with my fingers!! Cruise Control and downshifting. And you are quite right, about 150 miles per day on the highway with approx 14 stoplights in total. As traffic isn't too heavy on the route I use now, I can usually guage the lights so as not to have to brake for them.

200k - impressive! yeah when i replaced my OEM pads they weren't THAT low but i wasn't too impressed with the bite when driving spirited so needed something more aggressive. the vibrating the warped rotor was causing drove me to replace sooner rather than later. i just grabbed some drilled/slotted rotors ceramic pads and Goodridge brake lines - now brake response is REALLY firm and the car slows down much quicker than before.

Eventually, I will need to replace them...nothing lasts forever. Mind telling me what brand rotors and pads you went with?

I have rotors made by a company named Alien; the older generation Maximas know about them as well the company oddly only operates via email but makes a great product. The brake pads were just some random ceramics I picked up from Advance Auto, when I need to replace them I'm gonna grab some Hawk HPS or EBC brake pads I think. I slapped these in Spring of 2012 and so far so good! What really impressed me were the brake lines too; no more squishiness.

Honestly I'm still debating the 370z Akebono BBK as well. When your car weighs 3600 pounds you can never have enough stopping power.

Just curious as to if/how many times you've had CVT fluid replaced?

Every 50K. First two times, I had the dealer do it....the last two I did myself.
