20 inch wheels and vibrations?
20 inch wheels and vibrations?
Hey guys
This is my first time owning a set of wheels larger than 17s and as a consequence, I do not know what to expect in terms of vibrations.
I got 20'' wheels recently with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus in 255/35-20.
It has been rebalanced three times and roadforced once. At speeds above 65 MPH, it vibrates a bit. Not a lot but enough to make itself known and annoying.
Is this typical of this tire profile and size?
What has your experience been?

I'm on 20's during summers and I do experience a very very slight vibration at those speeds and I'm lowered on Eibachs. Tires are balanced and my car is aligned. But it doesn't bother me much. My tires are Falken 452's 255/35/20 btw
Getting 20's for the Max this summer. Will be able to provide more feedback then.
The stock 19's (with RS-A's) I have now ride pretty smoothly. Given what other people have said about them (the tires) I was expecting them to be atrocious. I was going to replace them with winter tires but decided I could live with them 'til this summer.
I guess the general advice I could give would be to make sure each tire is inflated the same. Make sure there is no uneven wear on them. You mention vibration at speeds above 65mph. Is this all speeds above 65 or is there a point in which it stops or gets worse? Does the car pull to one side? Is the vibration more noticeable in one area of the car?
On other cars I've driven, a number of years ago, with 20s where the aspect ratio is 30-35%, it is typically a slightly harsher ride than something smaller with say 40-45%.

Sorry for not responding for awhile. OP maybe Hub centric rings might help. I asked my friend and he told me he had slight vibration on his 20's as well (tires all balanced and car lowered and aligned) and he just bought a set of hub centric rings and no more vibration. I'm going to buy a set myself for the summer and see if it works.
