Help, please!!

Okay, I took off my stock (base audio) radio because I was thinking about putting an aftermarket one in for it replacement, but I decided to do it later. I placed my stock radio back in but now it will not power up.

I can control the radio from my steering wheel such as, change the station, switch sources, etc.. but I can't do anything from the stereo itself.

When I switch the source to aux, there isn't any sound plays from my IPod. I took everything back up and just wondering has anyone else had this issue?

Also, the "service engine soon" light is on. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Did you pull the neg battery cable before doing the removal? I would look at the fuse first.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I disconnected the neg cable from the battery before I did anything. That is why I'm puzzled.

I haven't check the fuse yet but that was my first thought. Also, I don't understand why I'm able to hear the radio but the stereo doesn't have any power/lights up.. Are they two separate components?

Not sure on that one. Maybe other members would have further insight?

Thanks anyway.

I forgot to mention this but don't know if it means anything: I left off the bottom two silver screws that hold the stereo in place because I'm planning on taking it out again.

So because we haven't run across this issue before, the forum is no help? I'm sorry when you signed for this forum you thought we'd have all the answers. We must of mislead you or there must of been a "we know everything" banner next to the register icon.

Now what probably happen, is either you snapped/broke/pinched/ the stock harness or one of the wires when plugging the unit back up, or your head unit is malfunctioning. Now if you are under warranty, I'd put those screws back in and take it to the dealer, if you are not, I'd put those screws back in and take it to the dealer. Maybe one of the guys that has swapped in a new deck can shed some light but they Probly would have done that by now.

Checking what trouble code you have may be a starting point. Maybe you forgot to reconnect a harness? Tear it down again and re-check everything. eljoker made a pretty good post above as well...

QFT. I'm sure we can't all be checking the forums 24/7 either.

Work slowly and document everything you do. Not only does it give others a clearer picture, it will like help you see what you need to focus on. If you're having trouble controlling it from the main face, check those connections for damage. The deck works so obviously power is okay. Maybe the power to the illumination dimmer got snagged. Maybe you put the wrong harness in another's connection (if that's possible). Or like crime said, perhaps you forgot a connection.

Help us help you.

Goto autozone and get the code checked for free, after you do what was said above and recheck everything. You probably did pinch the wire harness.

This is probably where you realize that you should of left everything alone and had it done by a professional. You are probably at the point where you are frustrated, and have no idea what is wrong. And you are probably so mad that you need Maxima.org to blame others because they never had experienced an issue like this. In the end, your car stereo controls are not working and all of ours are Muwahhahaah.

On a serious note. You should either go to AutoZone or PepBoys and have it figured out. Actually those damn Geeks at BestBuy know their stuff, although they will charge you for their .02. If under warranty..Replace everything back to stock and you tell them you have no idea what is wrong with the dash controls. Play stupid, or you will be hearing the never-ending "Why do you need to replace this and that...BLAH BLAH BLAH"

This is a great forum. I just use a bad constructive criticism to get some attentions/suggestions and I see it works.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to take it off again and make sure everything is plugged in correctly. The check-engine light is off now, by the way.
