ipod question

I have a 80 gig 4th gen ipod, music, video and podcasts, nothing fancy. I plug it into the usb and nothing, the car does not read it. I know the PO used an ipod because before I deleted the name out of the menu it would try to access hers and the system would lock because I assume it didn't recognize mine. Is there a different type of cable I need to get or is it because I have an older model ipod?

Try a couple simple quick fixes, first unplug and re-plug in the iPod to the connector in your console. If this doesn't work turning the ipod off and on may help it to recognize. To check and see if your cable is bad...when the ipod is connected, see if it is charging.

I had this issue also but it was resolved by unplugging the ipod, plugging it back in then opening the music icon on the ipod. After this it was recognized. It was a first gen ipod touch.

Thanks I didn't think of turning off the ipod itself. Hopefully this will do the trick, I miss my old school music.

Turns out the problem was with the USB port in the console. Apparently, the PO was a little too rough with her ipod and broke the connection. State Line ordered the replacement part and now I'm just waiting for it to come in.

Nice! At least they are fixing it for you. Is it covered under warranty for you?

The dealership I go to is awesome, they replaced my battery, fixed my foglight, and re-programmed how my doors unlock all for free. The part I need is going to be free as well.

I did get the extended warranty but they did all that work for me before I actually decided to get it. With the warranty I don't pay a deductible for any work needed and all I have to do to my car for the next 60k miles is add gas and drive it. They'll change my oil every 3500 miles and rotate my tires every 7k miles. Thats the same schedule I've always followed with all my cars.

Does connecting the ipod via USB allow the steering wheel controls to operate it?
