steering-by-wire

Who is in? Next Max you think?

Nissan has developed the first production "steering-by-wire" system, a fully electronic steering system that uses a combination of sensors and motors, which will debut on the 2014 Infiniti Q50.

I don't think I can appreciate this.

The new Q50 could easily be the old (current) max.

What do you mean the old maxima? The new Q50 will have 98 different settings to customize the drive experience..

It's not going to matter. Within your lifetime, your car will end up being self driving. Don't believe me? Laws are already hitting the books about self driving cars. Florida already has a certification or something and self driving cars are allowed. Enjoy your driving time now, cause you as the driver are being replaced.

Car and driver had an article about this; I'm cautiously optimistic. The system has numerous fail safes including a clutch which will lock the steering wheel directly to the wheels in the event of a system failure allowing you complete manual control...

We are pretty far away from that happening
