Max vs Avalon vs Azera

Max vs fwd TL would have been a better comparo, 2 FWD Semi Lux cars with Sporty intentions that are booth long in tooth as they say. Despite its age I would choose a Max over these.

Glad to see that the max is the athlete of the bunch, despite the fact that they are comparing it to brand new models. The maxima has been underestimated for the last 4 years, and I'm glad to see that they are talking about it now, after ford declined to participate. Like Monte said...There are other contenders that would be worth adding to the comparo (acura tl, charger v6, etc...)

Damn the naysayers, indeed! I thought that part was pretty funny. Haven't driven an Azera yet but I'd love to have the chance. The Avalon is pretty much everything you would expect and kind of felt "boaty."

I drove the Azera awhile ago. I didn't like the steering feel. I felt like I had to turn the wheel way too much when maneuvering through the dealer lot after the test drive. And for a brand new design I think it lacks a lot of features that other newly designed cars have. For example, no heated steering wheel, blind spot monitor, radar cruise control, etc. Might as well get a Sonata.

^^ Agreed. Traded our 2010 TL SH-AWD for a 12 Maxima and the wife doesn't miss the TL at all. She hated that car. Just too big. As for the comparisons, how can you compare the Maxima to a Hyundai and the Avalon although a great car is for old people and is not sporty at all and lacks the road feel of the Maxima.

Intellichoice Value Rating gave the maxima poor rating. I wonder why.

It looks like a range of factors related to cost. I will say I'm a bit surprised seeing some of the stats they have, particularly the cost of fuel after 5 years... but then again, I'm not surprised since I keep my own stats as well. Not quite hitting some of those numbers but it does get close.

Oh well.

No but the 7th gen came out in 2008. The Azera came out 2012. So I think it should have those features by now. Once the 8th gen Maxima comes out. It's technology will blow the Azera out of the water.

Very true. The 7th gen Maxima has not changed radically since it arrived at dealers in June 2008. Moreover, the bulk of the design work for the 7th gen Maxima was done in 2006, final tweaks were done in the first half of 2007, machines were built to produce parts for the production lines in mid-to-late 2007, and the first test models of the 7th gen Maxima were produced in November 2007. We know that because were were seeing spy photos of comouflaged 7th gen Maximas in December 2007.

By January 2008, the 7th gens were rolling off the production line. While watching the assembly line in Smyrna in February 2008, I saw quite a few 7th gen Maximas roll off and be driven away.

Designing will now be far along on the 2015 8th gen Maxima. By this July, work will probably begin on producing the machines that will make the parts for the 8th gen Maxima, as the first test versions will probably be coming off the assembly line before the end of this year, with the 8th gen 2015 probably going on sale between March and June of 2014.

It is going to be fun all this year watching the car mags (and posters here) begin their usual guessing game as to what we will get with the 8th gen Maxima. As I always buy the first model year of each new Maxima generation, I will be watching closer than some.

And, oddly enough, the all new Pathfinder doesn't have blind spot monitoring or adaptive cruise control available either. Hopefully this isn't a preview of where the new Max is going.

^^^ Which is strange because the quest had it in 2011, and the Altima has it now in the Technology package. I would imagine the Maxima would have at least the Lane departure warning, blind spot warning, and rear object detection available.

As far as the comparison, the Max made it in by default, they know it is dated, and I wouldn't expect it to compare with cars that were designed/built 5 years later. It held its own but I am excited to see where this redesign goes, looks like it will be on Altima platform and might go back to its roots a bit size-wise.
