Debating on whether or not it's worth it to get a viper alarm for my 2011 maxima? Let me know what you guys think.

I enjoy my 5902, the remote start has spoiled me a bit. also nice cause you can keep adding modules to it later

Is it just worth it overall? I saw a video on youtube and the guy that had the viper alarm on the maxima, he still had to use the push start. I just thought defeats the purpose of the viper alarm?

Having to push a button defeats the purpose of protecting your car. Does that make any sense?

That makes no sense. The remote start is so you can start your car remotely; not so anybody can steal it. You still need to get in with the Intellikey and push the start button twice to switch the car to a driveable mode. Otherwise when you just push the brake it turns off. Trust me, you want this feature. The whole point of the Viper is SECURITY.

naw it's not worth it just buy another maxima instead. its smarter to drop another ~25K instead of a couple hundred bucks on an alarm. or just rent a car until the police find whats left of your car(if it didnt get exported). crossing your fingers is the cheapest route. when you take into consideration that you will get lower insurance rates it's still smarter to just buy another max.

Yeah what ghozt said was what I was wondering. Thanks ghozt for clarifying it. I think I'm gonna go for it. Seems like a good investment. if I do get the viper alarm I will still have the two options between the push start and the viper remote start correct?

I guess I'll be spending a pretty penny for the alarm, oh well, I need it ! I'll try to get everything in one shot, so I don't have to add anything in the future.

FYI if you don't buy it from an authorized dealer it voids the warranty

Me personally I think it's a waste of money. The car already has a factory alarm on it. I am doing the viper one button remote start only w/ 2 way feature (let's me know the car received the signal to start). I am doing this because with the intellakey you still need to carry the factory Nissan fob and I don't want to carry another big as remote around with me. I have the 5904 on my truck because it has a regular key. The whole alarm feature will keep my car from getting stolen is also a scam (JMO) if a good car thief wants your car they will get it. The one I'm putting in my is viper 4203v

true, in fact might as well ditch the wheel locks and leave valuables on your seats as well. who cares right? so easy to replace a stolen vehicle.

nobody said an alarm makes your car impossible to steal. it discourages a majority of car thieves except for professionals. if a pro takes it you're right not much you can do; but that doesn't mean to leave it so amateurs can take it too

I agree, I don't even think it goes off. I tried it, and it didn't do a thing. It's better to get a Viper.

Yep 100% true I was confused on what warranty you were talking about.

I didn't say alarms are useless, I should have clarified a little more. On this particular vehicle I think it's kind of a waste. True it is a discouraging thing for thieves if you have an alarm, but these cars do have a factory alarm. Now the factory doesn't communicate with the fob like the viper does, but thieves can still get in and take things from your car that are left inside it. The good thing about the viper also is it has a shock sensor, the factory doesn't it only triggers with the doors being opened. The other thing a car thief has to get around if you don't have an alarm is the intellakey push button start. These cars don't start without them. I was just saying me personally I think it's a waste on these particular cars, unless you want the security of shock sensor to protect with broken windows and stolen wheels (if you don't have the wheel locks)

True, no car alarm will protect you from a smash and grab similar to no house security system will stop a smash and grab either unless you bar up everything (you have windows on your house, right?).

The main reason I like the Viper is cause of the add-ons. You can get the Smartstart, tilt sensor, glass-break sensor, and backup battery. Mine has every module. When you think of the shock sensors + all of that it really is a decent amount of warning/protection. On top of that I added several extra "horns" so when my alarm goes off it's pretty fking loud (on the inside too - you will go deaf trust me).

Thieves generally like to work in silence because noise attracts attention. Usually pro's will go straight for the electrical system and disable it; good luck disabling that + the backup battery. With all the different types of sensors you can get that will trigger the alarm (which with a few added horns can be an attention getter) most ways to get into/take the car have audible alerts. On top of that the Smartstart has the GPS option so you can instruct police to your exact vehicle's location.

Also: the Smartstart is cool cause you don't have to carry the extra keyfob plus have unlimited range on alerts/remote start essentially. You can program it to email/text you if the car is driven at all while in a "lockdown mode", email/text if it goes over a certain speed, out of a certain area, etc.

I agree that short of hiring an armed contingent to guard your car, nothing is a guarantee. Arguably you can say a car alarm is a waste of money on any car because you have car insurance and everything is replaceable. Some people get ADT for their houses, and some just buy locks for their doors. Different strokes for different folks.

I agree with you about the add ons. I used to install at shop for about 85-90 new car dealers. Our main product line is viper. All the cool **** you can add on is awesome. I'm just saying with this car I didn't want to carry around 2 big remotes in my pocket and was just doing the remote start only so I didn't have to. The viper stuff is really nice like I said earlier I have the 5904 HD on my frontier and I love it. True if you do have the smart start feature on yours you dont need to carry a remote for the viper at all. I guess I didn't think of that and I guess if you add on more horns and sirens then it will really grab yours or someone else's attention for your protection. I guess for me personally the wife and I have our cars right our bedroom window (bedroom is right above garage) so if someone broke a window on the car and tried to get in the factory alarm would wake us up and we can rush outside. That's why I was saying me personally think its a waste that's all
