Self-install HID kit
Self-install HID kit
Hello all,
I have a stock 2011 Maxima S and am looking to upgrade my halogens to HIDs (probably 6k). Any suggestions on kits, brands, or any documentation on how to do the install myself? Thanks much!

I have the brabus kit and works great before i had it i tried a couple of different ones and the light would jump on the driver side.
I just purchased the H11 kit for $150 shipped with great customer support from Ceasar the owner. Give them a try. http://www.lightwerkz.net/
Installed the HID kit yesterday and it was a breeze. I will post up some of the pics tonight when I am at home. What a huge difference in the quality of lighting and how much better you can see over the incandescent H11.
3 Recommendations, I've bought the Morimoto Mini, HID kit, and shrouds from them for my previous car and recently picked up a "Black Series Lens" to replace the Maxima's stock lens! Their customer service is top notch and are great when it comes to returns for any legitimate concerns or problems you have.
Picks for the ballast locations.

With 55w ballasts, if the projectors don't have a foreground limiter, then over time you'll most likely get eye fatigue b/c of the significantly bright light right in front of the car instead of down the road. Also, 55w dramatically cuts the life of the bulbs, so you'd be replacing more often (~once per 1-1.5yrs), but bulbs are cheap now anyways so not a major loss.
No the install was easy once you get the fender liners out of the way. The best thing would be to have somebody that has installed one before lend a hand. There is a DIY section on instating HID's that shows you how to remove the fender liners and other things. As far as 35w versus 55w I do not know, but if you contact Caesar at Lightwerkz he can and will answer any questions you may have. Hope this helps and happy modding
Did the install by popping open the fender liner, but not completely removing it. Mounted the ballasts and relays up top and hid the cables under the panels that the maxima has in the engine bay. I ended up buying the Morimoto H11 kit with 5000k bulbs. The relay was kinda confusing, but the image here cleared it up: http://www.mydepots.com/ebay_images/...ay-harness.jpg

Glad to here you got them installed. I did not use the supplied harness because I think it is a bit overkill. Installed them on a previous the same way without the extra harness and it is still working.
If you open your hood and try to look at where your headlights are, there is a bar that goes down the side of your engine bay that your headlights sit behind. I mounted the ballasts on this rail. I had the help of a friend, and it wasn't so bad. Just popped open the fender liner (all held by those plastic push screws) and reached in and did it. My friend has experience doing it so he could take out/put in the bulbs without looking.
