Instant MPG question
Hi all,
I just got my 2012 Maxima yesterday with 10k miles on it and I got a question about the instant MPG indicator.
Why is the computer reporting 0MPG when I'm at a stop? Shouldn't it be full MPG? I've looked at a couple of youtube videos and it is the same thing. You're at a stop and it report 0 MPG, then you accelerate, you get a little more and when you release your foot from the gas, you get full MPG.
Thanks.

Its an instantaneous read of your MPG. So if you aren't moving and your engine is on, you will burn all of your tank going 0 miles. 0 Miles / X Gallons = 0. The moment you start moving the miles goes up and thus your MPG does too. And when you take your foot off the gas the denominator changes. Since you are coasting you are using very little gas yet you are moving quickly so its just the opposite as the first situation. X Miles / A very small amount of fuel = a large MPG.

Because when you're at a stop, you're not moving, so you're literally getting 0 miles per gallon that you're sitting there. The indicator is correct in the way that it is reporting, but accuracy is another question, I prefer seeing the numbers for instant myself rather than a bar.
