Sunroof diffuser vibrating on highway

Hey guys....I did a search but didnt find anything on this.

When I have my sunroof opening on the highway, the diffuser that pops up when its opened starts vibrating like crazy and makes an awful bellowing noise in the car. It starts around 70 and sometimes even less on windy days. Has anyone else noticed this or know of a fix for it?

The only thing I could think of is to screw or glue on a little thin plate along the length to stiffen it up.

Thanks.

I notice that mine is noisy, but not a strange sound. Is yours the standard sunroof or the panoramic sunroof?

standard. Its the black diffuser piece that is vibrating, making the noise.

I figured I would bump this back up since its spring and I'm using my sunroof again. Anyone else having trouble with their sunroof diffuser vibrating on the highway?

I have the panoramic roof and of course the wind attacks it like crazy so there is always noise at highway speeds but the diffuser I have does extend a little higher than the normal sunroof. I can't tell if the diffuser is creating the noise or just the sunroof because it's so much noise coming from that area. Applying something to stiff it up may work.

Have you found anything to alleviate the issue??

No. I was thinking of grabbing a piece of aluminum sheet metal from home depot, tracing a template and cutting it to the right shape. Then grind the edges smooth, paint it, and attached it with an epoxy or a few countersunk screws. Seems like a lot of work that I really dont have time for, but its really annoying that I can't drive on the highway with my sunroof open.

I would need to remove the diffuser to trace it and to mount the stiffener. Any idea how to remove it?

Now that I don't know. There may be a thread around that has instructions or someone may come forth and provide help.

Curiously, thought, you don't think that since the wind will now be hitting something solid you will have more noise?

I wouldnt be adding anything for the wind to hit. This strip of aluminum would be cut to match the current diffuser shape and glued or screwed to the back of it. See this photo (not a maxima, but similar). It would attach to the back of it to stiffen the up and down bending of the diffuser.

I've had this issue also around 70+ and I think the best fix would be a rain guard up there similar to the ones that go on your windows....I don't like that look though so I'll just deal, even though it sounds like it's shaking your entire car when it starts!

Glad i'm not the only one who has this issue. I'll give it a shot with adding the strip of aluminum and see how it works. It'll be a while before I get to it, probably a few months at least. But I'll report back later.
