If you upgrade your nav system your only upgrading the maps. Also are you aware it is like 200 bucks plus labor to upgrade it. I don't know of anyone that has upgraded the nav system. Personally I use a garmin with lifetime updates. I wish I hadn't got the nav system in mine. I wont have another one with that system. Way to expensive.

You can say that but the display is better on the nav than the regular entertainment system.

I wondered this same question, but mine is a little different. Is there a way to update the software so my 09' will charge an IPhone 4? I have the rectangular plug in the center console NOT a USB port. Thanks for the help

^ its got nothing to do with upgrading the software but wiring as the iPhone 4 takes lower voltage vs whats in that square plug, i mean you possibly could wire in a resistor/capacitor ( not an electrical engineer here) to modify the voltage input....but there are adaptors/converters you can buy that will add on to that wire and will allow the iPhone to charge and be fully functional with the Max's controls/display

Thanks for the info. Any idea where I can find one of those converters/adaptors? Thanks again

The '09 update is totally different from the '10 thru '13 updates. Those four model years use a 5 disk thingie I believe. But the '09 Maxima does not. For the '09, you pay over the internet, and you are sent a code which you take to your dealer, who downloads the nav updates. Full info is at:

www.nissannavigation.com/roads

If you update BEFORE JUNE 30, the price for the code for the '09 Maxima is $99. On June 30, the special sale ends, and the price goes back to $149 for the '09 Maxima update. My dealer does mine for free, but some dealers charge up to $100 to do the install. I would check dealers and use the cheapest installer.

This type update only updates roads, gas stations (including current gasoline brand of each gas station; stations around me are constantly changing brands), restaurants, government offices, attractions, etc.

My wife and I always travel together, so one of us uses the nav while the other drives. We are often in areas we have not been in before, and use our nav several days each week. I love being able to use it as a map or convert it to 'bird's eye' view or have north at the top of the screen or have the top of the screen showing what is in front of me. My eyesight is not good enough to use the smaller screen Garmins or modern technological devices our children and our siblings are always using.

Because we use our nav so often, and always seem to be hunting a specific brand of gas or restaurant or motel, we will always have a car with a built-in one. I can see where many folks, especially those usually in familiar areas, would have little use for one, or would prefer something small and portable.
