Amber screen swap

I'm thinking of putting an in-dash navigation screen where the amber screen is, but my climate settings are shown there. Anyone got any suggestions??

Sent from my iPad using MaximaOrg

You'll simply have to move it. Extend the factory wiring and place the hvac screen somewhere. Some people place it in the glove box. Others have cut a space for it on the dash console below the receiver or just above the shifter.

Yes, some added a 7 inch monitor, others added a tablet. No easy task. I gave up on the tablet, and I am doing some research on the monitor to mirror my android phone. There is another thread that shows picture from the ac display relocation

It's a Power Connect screen. I could use it for navi and the rear view if I wanted to but I just haven't hooked it up yet. I would just use my head unit instead though.

Big$am, what method did you use to attach the tablet to the console? Also, how did you align it?

Thanks.

Just use double sided tape. You can simply take the top piece in one hand and take the screen in the other and align it up until it looks centered.

Cool, I didn't think of that. I used the blue tape that use for painting and crazy glue. I taped the blue tape onto my tablet, put crazy glue on it and glued the tablet to the back on the console. I was just wondering how other people did it.

Thanks.

The one above wasn't going to brand specific. It would display and monitor all the vehicle's function.

Custom. Cut the harness off and extend the wiring. I used crimp connects and terminals and 22 gauge wire I had lying around.

Man, I wish I had a cnc mill. I just sacrificed my lower tray on the single din metra kit and cut it out with the rotary tool. The HVAC screen itself isn't well mounted unfortunately and is still only being held up with 5lb strength 3m tape. It'll do for now I suppose

Thanks! I was thinking it was probably the best way to go as well (didn't want to put it in the glove box either or cut the factory plate above the shifter).

On another note of a possible screen replacement...
A friend of mine pointed this device out to me - http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ynx-MAD11.html

It would be awesome to integrate this with a 7" screen; the whole package would fit in the top dash area. Additionally, it'd be easier to set up a reverse camera system. Drawbacks? No GPS or built in bluetooth. Poop. There are cheaper options on Amazon as well if you look up android box or android computer.

If only it had GPS~

Your already spending 200 plus w/e the monitor costs so I say go with the Samsung galaxy tab 2. works amazing

Oh I know. I'm definitely going with a tablet, I just wanted to point out there were other options out there.

That box isn't worth it without the built in GPS, Gyroscope, and Bluetooth, if you ask me.

Thanks, believe me there was waaayy too much cutting and sanding I didn't put into perspective. This took a lot longer than I thought and came with a lot of trial and error. Overall it came out ok. I got another idea I'm going to try with the bottom piece though.

Heh, I didn't even put the thing in yet. Maybe this week. Still thinking of some options to keep the tablet functional and accessible.

You guys gave me so many great ideas and tips so, I'll like to share what I've done so far... the cutting part was the hardest but once I figured out what I was doing it worked out....I took a single din and a double din and joined them. the vinyl I got from ebay.

I think the top screen is the double din and the button is the single din.

Yes, the top is the double and the button is the single, I'm not feeling the stereo much however....might go for a more refine look (smoother look)

You are SOL unless you want to do some heavy modification. There are no aftermarket harnesses that utilize the setup your are talking about. Only people with the monochrome (orange) unit have the ability to install and aftermarket head unit. You would also most likely lose all functionality of the color screen.

Has anyone made or found a mount that attaches to the inside of the screen? I recall seeing it in another thread recently where they made a magnetic mount for a Ford Focus. I tried shoving my Galaxy Tablet in there, and it didn't fit.
