Tapping sound When In Park

My 2013 with 3800miles has a tapping sound that appears to be coming from the area around the top of the motor near the radiator when I put the car in park.

Has anyone experience this ? I don't se any noticeable change in RPM's when shifting to/from park.

Back to the dealer tomorrow for it's 2nd unscheduled pit stop, last one was at about 3200 miles so I did the oil change then. Last stop was or a dashboard rattle an Ebrake light at never worked since new and an A/c adapter that never worked

Though I never had this with my '12, I'm assuming something is just loose which shouldn't be for a new Max. I need to check my Ebrake light now that you mentioned it and everyone seems to have a blown fuse when it comes to that 12V outlet.

When you find out what the knocking noise is please let me know... I have a 2010 with 45k that bought preowned and I have been hearing the knocking but was thinking its normal

The car already had the Ebrake light fixed( was never connected) power outlet ( faulty unit) and some dashboard rattle at the dealer a month ago.

This rattle when in park is odd as it seems to come and go and I can't get it to always do it, at times it resembles an engine knock.

With the hood closed I hear the noise through the grill but when opened the noise appears to come from below the plastic cover on the motor.

It's very odd as there is virtually no change of rpm when shifting to/from park , an rpm change might cause something to rattle.

I'm going to wait a few days as I don't want to bring it to the dealer and they can't recreate the noise.

Do you hear the knocking sound all the time or only in park ?

Does it do it everytime you put the car in park or is it intermittent ?

Seems after a 5 minute or so drive it does it when I switch to park but I can't recreate the noise everytime

I believe the fuse is located in that fuse area in to the left of the steering wheel but closer to the place where you rest your left foot when driving. The Nissan rep was showing me after they replaced mine but I really wasn't concerned at the time however I do remember them changing a fuse in that location on my 6th gen. I would do what you are already doing and bring it back (I know it's a pain) and have them to change it for free.

I probably won't be able to get the car in until next weekend , I emailed service telling them the issue.

I notice it makes the noise in Park and Neutral but not any other gears. Since the rpm is not moving enough to cause a knocking noise ( something vibrating) I guess this must be internal but would just be guessing

I seen a youtube video of a guy who had a timing chain knock but why would that happen in only park or neutral ?

Any ideas ? I was really starting to like this car but it has 3800 miles and already has had more issues than my Infiniti had with 150K

The only reason I didn't buy another Infiniti is I know longer live near a dealer

Thanks

If it's the timimg chain tentioner it's fairly easy to simulate. When in park rev the enging to about 2k rpms. Let off the accelerator, and as the engine settles back down the chain will slack and make noise.

It makes the noise in park or nuetral without reving it up. You can put your foot on tne brake and go through the gears and the noise stops everytime you put it in reverse or drive but the reappears when in Neutral or Park.

I brought it by the dealer today and they had a tech come and listen but he had no idea what it was but at least him and the service advisor admitted it's not normal.

It also seems the car has to be warmed up before the noise will appear, could be because the engine idles higher when it's cold.

It could very well have been doing this since new as I usually put the car in park and turn it off right away, I only noticed it because I left it running and moved the garbage cans inside

I am dropping it off Monday night, at 3800 miles hopefully it's something simple

Check these threads. There are others as well

Engine tapping at idle

Engine Knock at Warm Idle

Engine "Tapping" sound at idle

If this is what you are hearing, it could be normal engine sounds or it could be engine bearings. Good luck
