Jerk when shifting from N to D

Hi Guys,

Ive got a 2011 SV with 51000 miles, I noticed something and would like to know what you guys think

1) When engaging the drive selector from N to D there is a distinct jerk which runs through the entire car, and it can be felt by everyone in the car, Ive driven one other 7th gen and did not notice this in that car (Could it be the engine/tranny mounts that are shot ?) (Also happens when I shift from N to R)

2) Lot of vibration when the A/C compressor kicks in, can be felt in the steeing wheel and the gear shift lever

Other than that, its solid and loving every minute

Could be engine/tranny mounts or CVT fluid needs to be replaced. It sounds like it is engine/tranny related and all that stuff is still under warranty. Take it to the dealership for a diagnosis, should be an easy find since it happens all the time.

I agree with Richard66 you may need a CVT fluid change. But take it to the dealership and let them diagnose it for certain, since the fluid change at the maintenance interval thru them can easily run you over $300 dollars.

I changed my own fluid at 50k miles because mine was darker than I liked, and the dealership said it was good until 100k miles.

Will be taking her in this week to get that Dealer diagnostics, I really hope its just the mounts !!

Just wondering out loud, how does the quality of the fluid correlate with the initial jerk when changing from N to D , does it mean the initially the belt slips and then finally settles on the pulleys ?

How long have you had this car and when did the problem start to occur?

Got her just two weeks ago, picked it up in a private deal, from the first owner, the miles are mostly highway commute. It has full service history with the dealer, so the warranty is also good.

Booked an appointment with Nissan for major service this sunday, I figured Id spend some money on it now and get all these minor points closed, especially the CVT fluid replacement as Im not too sure the dealer recommended CVT service interval is a good idea (Agree with all your comments guys and thank you for the advise)

Will update once I get feedback after dealer visit.

Gents,

So finally got the service report from the dealer

1) CVT fluid has been changed (Drain & Fill method)
2) Coolant has been flushed and replaced
3) Engine Oil & Filter have been replaced
4) Suspension and Drivetrain have been inspected and no issues
5) Motor/tranny mounts are fine (Apparently)

Regarding the original concern, jerk when shifting from 'N' to 'D', the answer (expected, surprise surprise) from Nissan service advisor was that this is normal when the tranny gets the initial load.

I still think its the mounts that are gone, however Nissan said that the mounts are, which is bunch of BS.

Also when the A/C is on, every compressor cycle begins with a big judder that shakes the steering wheel and the entire dahboard, I can even feel it in my seat !!

My question guys, anything else I need to look at, or perhaps different strategy ?

The car is still with Nissan.

Cheers for your feedback

You are all good man. They have no reason to not sell you parts or replace defective parts. Service would get paid even on warrantied parts. When going from N to D you would expect to feel the power once everything is engauged.
