Another new guy with exhaust question

Hello everyone, new guy here. Picked up a crimson black 2010 SV Sport in July and absolutely love it. This is the 25th vehicle I've owned and have to say it is my all time favorite. It is bone stock. For now............

I do have an exhaust question. I've searched but can't really find a thread that covers my question. It is a 2 part question....

1. Emissions are required where I live. If I were to remove the third cat, is that enough to throw a code? Cause a CEL?

2. Based on the answer to question 1, what is the best way to get the deep throaty sound? I want to keep it legal year round. Back in the day I would have just welded flanges and had a gutted cat until emissions time. That's more than I want to mess with anymore though.

Looking forward to hanging around and bugging you guys with questions! Thanks for your help.

Rear cat is not monitored. There are several systems out there that will give you a deeper tone. There are lots of options depending on your budget. You could just replace mufflers or remove the resonator or full system. It all depends on $$$$$$$$ Good luck and welcome aboard.

I think I got an email from stillen saying that all their exhaust components are on sale this week.

Didn't really look at it closely, but it might be worth it to heck it out.

Research these threads too, there's tons of info on modding your exhaust.

You can remove that third cat without worries. Only way that you'll fail emissions is if they check it visually and find out its been removed. RacingLine offers a ypipe that replaces that pipe and therefore removes the cat. It's branded for off-road use because otherwise it's not technically legal to use. It really didn't change the sound though, so don't expect that. I just ordered a stillen catback exhaust on their Black Friday special. Sale might be over though. Seems to me like most people buy a catback exhaust, but there are plenty of people who have built custom exhaust setups. Good luck with researching the best setup for you.

Thanks guys. I've seen all the threads with all the exhaust options but none that I saw covered the CEL and if that third cat was monitored by o2 or not. I don't want to break the bank but I definitely want it to sound good too. All I really have to go by is youtube videos. I don't care so much about power gain, I just want to enjoy the nice sound of the motor.

Once I get 15 posts I'll post some pics, but it will be the same old stock crimson black Max. I'm picking up my wheels on WWednesday. Probably going to wait until I lower it to put them on though. Don't want to put nice wheels on with all that wheel gap to ruin it.
