New here... sorta.

Hey all, Just thought I'd introduce myself. Technically, I've been a member for 11 years, but I've only posted twice. Guess I'll start with some background.

I'm a single, 40 year old guy from Boston who moved to Vegas in '92. I was a heavy equipment operator for over 15 years and now work as a technician at a Nissan dealer. I've been turning wrenches for about 25 years, but only professionally for 4 years.

I've owned all kinds of different cars and trucks, domestic and import. I'm licensed to drive everything from a motorcycle to a semi with double trailers.

My current rides are my '02 Civic EX sedan, stock motor, fully aftermarket suspension, set up for road racing. An '89 Colt GT with a 4G63 swap running on E85 and making over 300 whp. It's the street sleeper. I also have my '87 Harbody truck with 460,000 miles on the original motor. My current daily, and reason for posting here is my pearl white '14 Maxima SV Sport. It's stock with the exception of an AEM CAI. I have about 500 miles on it now.

Look forward to posting and asking about what's available in the aftermarket.

Welcome to the group. Glad you introduced yourself. Should be plenty of people to guide you through the aftermarket parts available. And it's always nice to have a Nissan tech here to add to the groups' collective knowledge.

I tried the AEM intake on mine, set off a check engine light. Eventually had to switch to an Injen which I've had no problems with. I like the AEM though, it's the best setup for our cars IMO.

What's next for your max?

Borla, then Uprev. I've had Borla exhausts on almost every car. Loved the sound on my '06 350Z, so gonna give that a try.

If an exhaust upgrade is something is you like, you should also consider the y-pipe from RacingLine. It deletes an unmetered cat converter and opens up for better airflow as well. They're the only company I've heard of that makes the y-pipe, so that makes your shopping around easy. Unless you find someone selling a used one, you'll be looking at $292 for it. I've got the pipe and I like it. Works well with my stillen exhaust.

Sounds good. Check Amazon for this cat-back. They had the cheapest prices for Borla when I was researching.

Are you planning more than the exhaust? If so maybe hold off on the tune?

welcome man! honestly the borla for our rides is one of the quieter exhausts, so if you want that exhaust note you may not be super happy with it.

I'm probably gonna just cut the cat out of the stock Y and weld in a straight section. I've also been watching that high-flow primary cat thread. I'm very interested in those since I know a few tricks to do the job in about 3 hours for both front and rear cats. If they become available, I might do a how-to write up for them.

It's already on my Amazom wish-list. I have Prime, so I buy alot from them. I plan on getting the Uprev $700 tuner package. I have a friend with a dyno, so I do my own tuning. Prefer not to mail-order tunes.

I prefer quieter exhausts. I really liked the Borla on my Z... no rasp.

Yeah the Borla on this one they put big *** resonators on to kill the in-cabin drone, personally I was never really fully satisfied with my Borla. The AAM just dominates it sound-wise.

I've installed a couple AAM systems on GTR's. Wasn't impressed with the quality, especially for the price.

GTR's are a different beast. There are better exhaust systems available for those cars than what AAM offers.

For the Maxima, there is no better exhaust bolt-on than the AAM.

we must be talking about different AAM's then, the welds and build quality are fantastic. makes all of the other ~$800 exhausts for our car look like crap. but what do i know?

Altered Atmosphere? I just did one on a GTR a couple of weeks ago. It was the system with the electric cutout.

http://aamcompetition.com/i-4560648-...e-exhaust.html

The welds were great but the piping was very heavy, the hardware was cheap, the gaskets were cheap aluminized cardboard and it took a couple of hours to get everything to line up straight. Even then, we had to heat one of the pipes and bend it to get the exhaust tips centered in the bumper cutouts. The "specially designed" muffler was an off the shelf Magnaflow that even had "Magnaflow" stamped on it. It's a decent system, but they charge $3k for it. It's not a $3k system.
