Lane change signal
Lane change signal
I have just purchased a new 2013 Maxima SV with the Sport and Navigation package.
In the sales brochure and on page 2-23 of the Owners Manual a feature called Lane Change Signal is described.
This feature is meant to operate when you move the signal lever until the indicator light begins to flash, but the lever does not latch.
The lever can then be released and the signals should flash 3 times.
This doesn't work on my car...does it work on your 2013?

My 2014 does not do this. However, I looked at the 2013 Owner's Manual on page 2-34 and it is there but in the 2014 it has been removed. My friend had a 2012, and when I drove it, I do not remember it having that feature either.
I quite agree "we should have this".
My 2011 Dodge Caravan has it and the feature was actually one of the things that encouraged me to purchase this car.. not a big deal but it is actually very useful for the type of driving I do.

Seriously, though, now that you mentioned this I'm a little aggravated that it's in the manual but no one seems to have it. Why put it in the manual then? I remember driving many Chevy rentals and they had this and I always wondered why it did that but it all makes sense now. It's the little things that counts Nissan and if you can't remember that, I want out of this relationship!

Do u use turn signals when you change lanes but theres noone around you? I don't. I really don't use my turn signals much, unless I navigate in heavy traffic. What if there is a lane for left turn signal and you get in that lane and there is a red arrow for left turn and you have to wait - do you leave the turn signal blinking the whole time? Never.
I will check for that feature although i'm sure i wont have it.

In my state changing lanes, turning left or right without the signals blinking will get you a heafty traffic fine, as thier reasoning is you could be DUI when not using your blinkers while changing lanes. So they pull you over and check you out. I for one have so much better things to spend my money on then traffic tickets received because I was lax in good driving practices.
Also, the "3 flash" signal is only activated when the stalk is moved upwards (right) or downwards (left) before the "locked" stage where the signal will flash continuously as pictured. The "3 flash" will be cancelled if you move the stalk into its "locked" stage.

What package do you have on your car? The 2014 owner's manual has since removed the information concerning the lane change feature, so this is interesting. I also have a 2014, but it is the S trim with the Limited Edition package.
I have the SV. No tech package or Sport model. I was surprised that I had it too.
I wonder if this can be enabled or disabled through the computer, or if you got sold an Altima.
Just teasing. When I go in for my first service, I'll make a mention at it and sit in the other Maximas in the lot to see if they have this feature.

Let us know how it goes. What dealer in Houston are you going to? I am hoping this can be programmed in the computer or if it's a series of steps that you must do with the wiper stalk like on the Lexus models.
I read this and said "Whaaaaaa?"
So I went down to my car and it is in my manual as well. Then I tested it and (big surprise) it didn't work.
If anyone figures out why it isn't working (if it is a setting or something), please let me know. If anyone finds out that it isn't a feature, let me know so I can have another thing to be upset at Nissan about.
Mine is a 2013 Maxima SV Sport w/Tech and Nav

Whatever state you live in likely has similar laws. You might consider changing your ways, friend.
I always go to Baker Nissan North on 290. I didn't even realize Baker Nissan South is now Central Nissan. Sounds dumb and it seems all the cool people left!
We bought our Frontier at Baker Nissan South way back in '08, but with Sterling McCall being closer we headed to there this time to buy the Maxima.
I'm from Canada and my 2013 (SV Premium and Navigation package) doesn't have this but my owner's manual says I do.
I wonder if Nissan eliminated this feature (and forgot to remove it from the manual) when they went away with the rear seat radio/climate controls and auto up/down windows for all four windows post 2010 models?

This is a cool feature. When Ghozt did my custom sequential taillights he added this in as a bonus feature. It only works for my rear tails but honestly that's really all you need when changing lanes. My front turn signal still only blinks once.
It's not on the '10 SV Premium either. I like that feature as I more often than not signal my lane changes for 2-4 flashes. I know, weird. But my wife's 2007 Jeep GC has it and my '10 Max doesn't.
As someone else said, it's always the little things. Power folding mirrors anyone???

We should be aware that the manual for the 7th gen Maxima is, with very little changes other than the cover, the same manual used for the Murano, among other vehicles. I have found several things in my Maxima manual that apply only to the Murano.
I have been using the 'lane change' feature in vehicles for three or four decades. In each case, I would gently edge the stalk up/down (for left/right) till the signal began blinking, but not to the 'constant blink' position. After a few blinks, I simply remove my finger and let the stalk drop back to 'neutral.'
I was not aware that any Maxima had the '3 blink' feature.

My 14 sv sport does not have it. However my 2005 denali didn't either, so I added this: http://www.kahtec.com/lane_changer.htm

I'm a little confused here. On my 2010 SV tech/premium if you slightly raise or depress the stick, the blinker comes on for as long as you hold it in the position. I use it all the time when changing lanes. I'm surprised that this feature that's been on most of the cars I've had actually disappeared in later Max's. Is it possible that Canada has some law against its use and hence its just gone on Canadien cars?

Thats not the only feature missing
Thats not the only feature that is documented in manual but is missing on the car. On my 09 I am suppose to have a screen which should show tire pressure for all 4 tires. This was mentioned in both the manual and introduction DVD. I think this was added to later models though....
