And also blocks the rear console HVAC controls. The rear console HVAC controls actually do nothing but give a second set of controls with which to operate the front passenger side HVAC controls.
My granddaughters love those rear console controls. I simply put on my earmuffs, which keep my ears from freezing when they turn the AC to 60 degrees, and also blocks the top dozen or so decibles of Taylor Swift.
But when the sounds of Miley Cyrus and her Wrecking Ball come crashing through the earmuffs, I find my hand reaching down to the switch to block the rear seat nonsense.

Pop the blank button out, get you a switch and drill a hole into the blank button and run the switch through it. Wire it up and run it through your firewall to the engine bay, then wire then to your DRLs!
Clear to me & many others, but I didn't know it was clear to you. You mentioned that this was killing you, so that's the reason I brought it up.
This car has been out for a while, the production cycle is near the end. Surely past its intended run. The DRL's were not as common place back then.
Keep in mind that all current Kia lines have had major updates within the past five years or so, while specs were finalized on the 7th gen Maxima in fall of 2006, tools and dies were manufactured in 2007, test versions were on the road in late 2007 and early 2008, the assembly line was in 'limited' mode until around March 2008, and the 2009 7th gen Maximas went on sale June 26th of 2008.
How many cars had DRLs in 2006 or 2008? Other than those installed on products to avoid having to have different designs for cars sold in Canada (which has required DRLs for many years), not many cars had DRLs back then. Canada requires them because the sun is rather low in the sky there much of the year, meaning more difficult vision for drivers.
