Risk of not replacing TPMS sensors?

THey've started to go bad and instead of dropping $ in it, can't I just monitor tire pressure manually? Is there any risk of not replacing them (ie. some other electronics get affected)?

TIA

I did not want to fool with TPMS on my winter wheels/tires so I went without. You will get the warning light on your dash. So far (2,000 miles or so) I have noticed no other adverse effects.

6 years in and I only have 45K miles on it but all sorts of things are starting to go (TPMS, steering wheel motor, battery connector corrosion)...

I am currently on my 6th winter of using the stock wheels with winter tires and without sensors.

I went almost 35 years driving vehicles without TPMS until I got my 2010 maxima.
The key was being vigilant with a routine of checking your tires using an air pressure gauge.
I also believe it's less obvious with radial tires to visually tell if they have lost pressure compared with the old bias ply tires of the past.

1) If you keep an eye on your tires and 2)check the air pressure every 4-8 weeks there is no need for TPMS. TPMS is for those who do not want to bother with 1 & 2. TPMS is also a way for the automakers to cover their a$$es and make a few more dollars

TPMS is a waste of time. slap regular valve stems in and just ignore the dash light

He doesn't even need to replace the TPMS valve stems. For six years, I have used my trusty old tire guage to check my psi regularly using the TPMS valve stems just as I have been doing on all my cars for over sixty-five years.

The TPMS system does not help me greatly, as I maintain 37 psi in front and 35 psi in rear. The TPMS system is not triggered until the pressure is below 28 psi.

There will be TPMS systems in the very near future (already on some upscale vehicles) that give the exact psi for each of the four tires. That type of system will be one I would use daily.

Don't our 7th gen Maximas already show exact tire pressures for each tire? Could be on different packages maybe...but I can see the pressure of each tire in the display under the speedometer in my SV with Premium/Tech. You won't know for sure which reading is for which tire unless you have rotated tires or adjusted pressure yourself. That's how I know which reading is for which tire.

The later model 7th gens have that feature. The 2009 does not. I'm not sure which year nissan made the adjustment but I had a 2012 rental and it had it. My 2009 just just shows that a tire is low but doesn't tell me which one unfortunately

I check my tires pretty often, so the sensors aren't a selling point. One thing to check is the inflation of the spare tire. I haven't done that recently, and get 'the light' on cold mornings. pretty sure if I add some air to the spare, it won't come on anymore, as all of the other tires are spot on.

What models have TPMS on the spare? You can get a full size spare? News to me. My 2010 3.5SV has the donut spare and no TPMS sensor.

In 2008, federal guidelines mandated that ALL vehicles sold from 08 and beyond have TPMS. It doesn't replace checking tire pressure regularly, but instead, is a great tool when you've picked up a nail and are loosing air slowly as you drive.

However, if the spare tire is flat also, it doesn't really matter. Very good point - checking spare tire pressure isn't something anyone thinks to do. I did a year ago...I think

Late,
Trav

You're right about that. People often forget the spare, I helped a lady who had a blowout just ahead of me. When I grabbed her spare tire it was flat too and I had to take it to a gas station and fill it up with air.

I just got the light that I have the sensor needs to be replaced (flashing for 60 seconds then solid on). As I was reading up in the manual, I found that the spare does not have a sensor it in. However, I am glad I checked it because mine was at 16 PSI, when it should be 60...
