I was considering the Smart Start system at one point for my Viper system and wondered about how much power it drew from the battery since I figures it had some sort of cellular receiver that would be on all the time.
Guess I have my answer...
Did you have the crappy stock Nissan OEM battery?
Have heard many complaints about it so I wouldn't be surprised if that might be part of your problem...

Yeah the battery was toast, replaced it with an Auto Zone Duralast gold battery. Everything seems to be working fine now. I hope it was just coincidence.

Either incorrectly installed or coincidence. I've had smart start systems on my Maximas for years w/o battery draining issues.

I guess if I wake up to a dead battery in the morning I will know which one. What could they have done wrong to cause battery drain, anybody know?

Everything was fine this morning so I am thinking it was just a coincidence, I have seen a lot of complaints about the OEM battery. At least I have a good one now.

That is the exception, not the rule.

Have you checked to make sure the interior and exterior lights shut off when the remote start times out or is cancelled from the remote?

I had a Fortin unit installed a few weeks back. It would leave the lights on if it was cancelled or timed out. The correction was wiring the door pin to a plused signal that would mimic someone opening the doors and exiting the vehicle. It was a known issue with some keyless push button start vehicles, especially the Nissans.

I double checked the headlights, I didn't think about interior lights. I did play with the app a bit the first night, not starting the car but locking and unlocking. I will double check that tonight, thanks.

Ok so mystery solved, I did the same thing tonight I did the first night. I sent the lock command and then the unlock command to my car via the app. I went out and checked 10 mins later and bingo, the headlights were still on. You have to open and close the door in order to get them to go off.

Anybody else that has the Smart Start installed know if yours works this way?

I have a new battery and then had a battery, alternator, starter test --- all perfect. Yet every couple of days I start it and just get the clicking sound and have to jump it. I don't have any clue. I keep getting told that it doesn't drain the battery. What else can it be?
