Just drove 8 hours round trip to grab a set of the 370z Rays nismo edition wheels to put on my
Maxima. I have read multiple threads on here about the same subject but am still looking for details. I am running a staggered setup(for now) as I found a set from a Z owner for s very good price and jumped on them. Decided to run 245/40/19 on the front and was wanting to do the same on the read but was told they would not be wide enough so I'm either going with a 255/40 or a 265/40. I do plan on dropping the car using eibach springs. Question is, will the fenders need to be rolled? If so, before or after the drop? And, will most body shops know how to do this modification? I'm no mechanic and am fairly new to maxima mods. Please help.
Decided with a 245/45/19 front and 275/45/19 rear, going with the eibach drop would I be better off going with 245/40's up front and 275/40's ok the rear to prevent running? And as before, when would rolling be required?
Those tires are way to big. You can do 245/40/19 up front and 255/40/19 in the rear but you still might rub even with rolled fenders. Nismo wheels are aggressive in the rear. Might need a bit of camber but dont quote me on that. Try rolling fenders first and see what happens
Originally decided on the nitto mottivos 245/40's 275/40's. After talking to the tire guy and reading the previous post I decided to run a Michelin setup 245/40 and 255/40. Originally thought 265's and 275's would fit after seeing some maximas on this thread running the larger sizes on the rear with eibach drops already in place, like Ghozt and racerbox77's maxi's. Ghozt being nismos and racerbox77's being the 370z sport.
370 nismos are 19x10.5 +23 and 370z sports are 19x10 +30. Nismos stick out a little more then half an inch compared to 370z sports. Should be okay will rolled fenders and 255/40 in the rear. Post pics when your done
Wheels will be in today hopefully, eibach kit has been ordered and will be here on Friday. Rolling fenders might be required to fit the eibachs on the car. Although, I'm having trouble finding a shop that has experience doing so or that is willing to just roll the fenders without having any other body work done other than Z1 motorsports in GA who is about 3 weeks away from an open appointment. Any suggestions?
Forgot to mention, I am in Lawrenceville, GA so Z1 is still an hour and a half drive from me, so if anyone could point me in the right fender rolling direction I would be ever grateful
You could try Butler Tire, the do fender rooling. There are also some local Metro Atlanta people with good reviews just cant think of them off the top of my head.
Talked to butler, said they would do it but were reluctant as the process involves heating the fenders and the paint on nissans are prone to cracking when having this type of work done. Has anyone else had this problem? Would it be better going to a body shop that can do rolling and then the repainting if necessary? I'm not sure if I'll even have to roll with 255/40's on the rear with the nismo rims, but I don't want to attempt to install my eibachs and the fenders not able to accommodate the tire width and have to uninstall the eibachs. Blah!
I've been trying to find a pair of front wheels so I can do rotations since I can't with the staggered setup. Although, I love the look of the staggering, my question is, how bad will my tread wear actually being not being able to rotate? I know my rears won't wear as much and the front wheels will wear faster than normal I'm just unsure as to how bad the tread will actually wear and how often I'll have to purchase new tires. Guess I shoulda asked this before doing this setup but my heart was saying go for it.
Pretty 2-4x as often depending on alignment and driving habit.
When I was running staggered, I would get 20k on tires that most people got 40-60k out of.
That's not bad unless I ever get another job that's more than 2 miles from my house. That being said, might be interested in some front nismo Z wheels if anyone wants a pair of rears
I'll have to get back to you on which michelins, can't remember and I'm not with the car for the next day or so, but I did notice something that might be a problem. Every time I hit a bump, even such as going over an overpass on the interstate, the bottom of my rear fenders is kind of grinding away at the top/sidewall of my tire. It doesn't look like it's doing anything major to the tire, it's not taking big chunks out just little strings of rubber at a time. I went with the narrowest tire available for the 10.5" wide rims, 255/40/zr19's. Will rolling the fenders be necessary without even lowering the car yet? Even though it's driveable, I know it can't be good.

If that is the case, then yes, you will need to have your fenders rolled. If it is rubbing going over bumps, then chances are when your vehicle is loaded it will rub even worse.
Yeah I noticed it a lot more after I filled up the gas tank. Eibachs came in today and I'm also In the process of swapping my rears for a pair of fronts with new 245/40's on them like I have on my fronts so for the Tim being I'm going back to OEM rims and doing springs, wanted to avoid fender rolling if at all possible
When you lower the car, the wheels will pull in, and you will get a little more camber.
I would try again after that and see if they rub.
They wheels are very aggressive, so rolling fenders or fronts may be your only options.
I'm not sure just the drop will have enough change on the camber to make a difference, just from my observations. I'm no mechanic but from what I can tell, the fenders will be have to rolled to accommodate these 10.5" rear wheels. Hopefully the guy wanting to swap his fronts for my rears can make it happen(his eye was involved in a firework accident on the 4th). They are hyper silver but I found a good powder coat guy and plan on going PC black, I think the black would go good on my grey car. So taking them off might be necessary anyway and I can throw these eibachs on hopefully without having to do any rolling. Here are some pics to show the bulge. Last picture shows where the tire is rubbing.
Ok so I found a guy who is willing to trade me his front wheels for my rear wheels. The only drawback is his are hyper silver and mine are gunmetal, which might be ok, temporarily. I have the space grey color maxima and am not very fond of either hyper silver or gunmetal on the space grey. Going into this "project" I had dreamed of doing the wheels black one way or another, I can get them painted no problem and for fairly cheap, but would it be worth finding s good powder coated vs painting? I know the difference and know that PC'ing involves heating and curing the metal and have heard horror stories as to how the wheels end up but have also seen some really good work done. I'm also skeptical about letting a body shop paint the wheels as well, just don't want them to look too overly glossy or fake. Any ideas or opinions on what I could do? Thanks to everyone for all the help
Wow you're rubbing at stock height with a 255 on that 10.5? That's ridiculous. I'm running the 370z sports rays on stock height (245/40 on a 10" rear) and have no running issues at all. Not even close actually. The rear wheels do poke out too much for my taste but not as much as yours.
A 255 is the *smallest* width tire that will fit on the 10.5" rear wheels, according to the tire place. They wanted to run 275's but I knew I'd have clearance issues with that. I'm running 9.5" all the way around now with no issues, the extra inch made a huge difference. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the sport rays are 10" wide and the nismo's are 10.5" wide. The only
Issue I was having was when I was filled up with gas or had something in my trunk that was fairly heavy. I could go over a bump or a bridge and the rear fenders would sit down on the outer wall of the tire and make this horrible sound.
