Anyone else out there have any problems with rust on their trunks, I have a bad spot that the local dealer (Halifax Nissan in Nova Scotia) :cannot seem to get rid of, I seem to have a lot of moisture issues, lights, tai lights etc? :
There is not a rust spot on a car that can't be 100 per percent fixed. The problem with your dealership is they don't want to put in the time to fix it or they don't know how to fix it. Rust starts at the surface of the metal and works it way out eventually blistering through the top coat. They have to remove anything that is on top of the rust and grind down to the metal, to remove all the rust, chemical treat the surface then fill, prime and paint. If they skip all these steps and just topcoat the rust with paint then it will be back in less than a month. You will also have to address the cause of the rust. Water and wet conditions will not cause rust. There needs to be a pathway to the metal where oxygen meets moisture usually through a pin hole or a crack in the paint. If the dealership can't fix the rusting problem then have it done at a collision repair shop, where it will be don't right.
As for the moisture in your lights, if the car is under warranty then have the effected lights replaced, as this is not normal. The moisture is caused by poor sealing practices at the factory where they are made. For what its worth I have an 09 SV Sport and have had no rusting or moisture problems anywhere on the car.
Had my two side mirrors replaced under warranty on my 2013 two weeks ago and am dropping off my car on Thursday so the dealership can take my car to a body shop to have the exact same rust fixed. Dealership was aware of the rust problem and said it is caused by the fasteners for the rear chrome piece being to tight to the paint. The difference in the expansion rate of the the different surfaces caused movement. After the body shop repair, a spacer will be installed so this does not happen again.

A lot of great staff at Halifax Nissan, I have just hit a stumbling block with my 5th Nissan, just happened to be with one of my dream cars. Hopefully Nissan Canada will find a way ahead.
