Talk me out of an M56

I have not been active in the forum's for a long time, but I am looking for some input.

I still have my 2010 SV Premium Maxima. IMO it is quite a car and very well equipped compared to its competition. 150k miles at this point. I absolutely adore this car but at 150K miles the suspension is starting to get loose and I am sure that things will start needing to be replaced a more regular basis. Don't get me wrong, it will be a tough day when I hand over the keys as I have had very few problems outside of warranty, just 2 wheel bearings, a few odds and ends which I was able to resolve for virtually no cost, but I think I need to start thinking about a new car.

I have wracked my brain for a few months on what I should replace the car with...I looked the 8th gen, it's nice but the CVT on my current car makes me want to avoid another CVT. I thought about a G37 but after about 10 minutes of looking over the car it is a downgrade as compared to the premium maxima (but you do get RWD and an option manual if wanted). Beyond this I am struggling, the M56 and FX50 are the only things that really appeal to me. I could considered the V6 versions of both, but hey V8.

So this brings me to my problem statement, talk me out of this car. Why shouldn't I get an M56? I drove both and prefer the M over the FX, while I like my maxima I feel like the FX is a rebagged Nissan (don't crucify me for that haha) with not quite the premium feel of the M. So M56 or back the drawing board....

Thanks in advance!

The M56 has all the best styling features of the Maxima.
V8, rear wheel drive, manual transmission- it's perfect!

Before buying my max 2013 I test drive a 2013 M37 and I didn't like the ride( too soft and kind of bouncing and wobbling) and the 6 speed auto seem to change too often in traffic. It is also a little bit smaller. Since I drive often on snow I wanted AWD but instead I bought my 4th Maxima with very good winter tire.

I looked at M series reviews and the M37 has more gadgets and nannys. The M56 Sport is supposed to be much better.

You guys are providing the wrong information. The OP wants to be talked out of buying the M56, so give him the Cons. Every car has a ton of cons including the M56.

Uh, I would go with the M56. 0-60 in around 4.8 seconds, V8, 420HP, 417 ft-lbs of torque, nicer interior (in my opinion), more sporty and luxurious.

Only downside would be if you didn't get the X variant which is AWD then it is RWD, so it wouldn't be that great in winter.

Sorry for not trying to talk you out of it, but M56 is better in almost every way. It was also double the price of a Maxima brand new.

Why does everyone talk about speed and 0-60 times and horse power, you people here pull out their parking spot onto a 1/4 mile drag strip??? I assume there are no kids in here trying to drift and take the car to the track it's silly imo.
I like to beleive when we move up to a certain year of Maxima's and Infiniti's we are looking for a quite ride and other creature comforts and power and horse power comes second.. just my opinion. If the title was "talk me out of a 2011 Skyline" then sure, the conversations should go that way.

This is ME trying to ACTUALLY answer your question.
Look at the price range and options of an M56 compared to a Lexus LS SAME YEAR, even a E350 and E550!!! Compared to the drivability, options and reliability some of the other brands it can't be compared to IMO.

Since the M56 have launched I can HONESTLY tell you i've NEVER EVER EVER EVER seeing a M56 on the road and I am not Bsing. Did I say NEVER!!!!! I honestly wanted this car when it first launched but compared to it's competitors it didn't make sense. Oh, and I couldn't afford it lol..

Granted, The other cars can cost a little more when it comes to maintanence and a lot of it are things we can do ourselves.. Oil changes, filters ect.
If you've have NEVER driven a Lexus LS or especially a benz (E class and higher) I challenge you to do so before pulling the trigger on an Infiniti anything, even if one of these cars a couple of years older. Both of these cars i've personally driven and it's not something I can describe. When someone says "those cars are not that much better" they have never driven them. I was one of those people until i've driven it.
I didn't forget about the BMW's, they are nice cars, I had a 2012 750i for a week and I wasn't impressed. I enjoyed the 330i more..

Hope this was more of what you were looking for. you might want to stick to brand loyalty or not but trust me, get over it!..

Thanks everyone for the input.

I thought about the Germans (550i, S6, E550) but the significantly higher cost of insurance and maintenance along with the long term reliability issues (mostly hearsay, I have no personal experience) had me quickly removing them from the list. My intention with the vehicle is have something very comfortable, reliable, and still powerful. I do have 2 kids so the space is needed (eliminates coupes).

I really wanted to like the Lexus vehicles, my other ride is a UZJ120 and I love that truck and many Toyota trucks/luxury cars, however the ES is a re baged Camry so was never on the list. The LS is to expensive (great ride however). The GS was a very strong contender. It hasn't been written off, but there is something alluring about a V8 that makes me not sway towards the GS (you could get a GS460 for a while however they are hard to find, tend to be a little older and have higher milage (I don't have time maintain a high milage vechile). Very little from the american market appeals to me. I did think about a Chevy SS, the reviews are fantastic and there is ton's of aftermarket support out there should I ever want to venture down that path. However the rental car quality interior has me shying away from it.

It looks like I will pull the trigger on the M56. If anyone is interested in my maxima let me know. 150k miles, premium/cold weather packages, fairly decent shape, a few minor dings and scrapes (nothing major or easily noticeable). I have been offered $5500 on trade, if anyone wants it for that price let me know. I am located near zip code 01434 (north central mass)

I ended up buying an M56. 2012 with 36k miles, touring and technology package (no sports package which I avoided like the plague). The maxima was my first real car, not a student beater, I was very happy with the entire package and how it has treated me, but it is time to move on. I love my Maxima, since day 1, but man do I love the M56, gobs of power, great creature comforts and still similar to better fuel economy as compared to the maxima, 25-26 as compared to 24-25 respectively (not that you buy a V8 for the fuel economy).

Good luck everyone with a 7th gen.

Hi,

Congratulation on your purchase. Can you describe the ride quality compare to your maxima? I tried a M37 and I found the ride a little bit wobbly.
