Is there interest in a true dual exhaust system being sold?

Hello Maxima Family.

I'm trying to gauge interest on working with a company to produce a true dual exhaust for the Maxima. The basics are that it would be full stainless, from the cats back (replace y-pipe, mid pipe, and axle back), and come in under $1700 shipped.

That should be $500 under the full motordyne setup and have an equal build quality. (Natural finish stainless as opposed to full polish to keep cost down, but still fully tig welded)

They company currently does custom and maintenance work for Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Lambo vehicles, with the occasional Bently thrown in. They are a high end shop that I have been loosely affiliated with since near when they opened and they are willing to work with me on production of this exhaust if I take point.
Before putting a lot of effort (money) into the project I wanted to judge people's reaction, ideas, and commitment to the idea.

Thanks.

If $1700 shipped is too high, what price point would you be comfortable?
$1000, $1250, $1500?

Hmmmmmm sounds very interesting. $1700 is rather pricey but given what buyers would be getting I say it's worth it. The $1250 mark will likely get more response I believe but given the fact these cars are now the "old" generation of maxima I am not sure you would get the right type of people willing to fork over that type of cash for a custom exhaust like you would've when people were still buying the 7th gen new off the showroom floor.

Well, i have the first one being made next week.
I'll be able to get the exact price for them (fixtured batch production) after the first is made and we make sure the sound, (minimal or less) drone, and setup are all like we want.

I just purchased the motordyne exhaust with the art y pipe it's a really amazing sound plus the quality is flawless! You're are going to have to lower your price if you want interest $1700 is too pricey for a system nobody knows about. I think folks would pay the extra $200 for the motordyne setup.

Motordyne website pricing shows $300 more, not $200.
I'm talking shipped price, and that would depend on where in the US you are located.
Last year, Motordyne was an unknown to the maxima world as well.

It is probably going to end up in the $1500 range, but we will see next week.

Do people care about polished vs natural stainless pipes?

Would people be interested in a aluminized steel and mig welded budget option?

The exhaust was completed today. It is awesome. The iPhone can't even record how deep it is. Photobucket isn't letting me upload a clip right now, but it is on Facebook.

The iPhone can't record the bass properly. I'm borrowing a much better recording device this week to get proper sound clips/video.

Any codes or hiccups?? Can you feel the difference at the pedal? Performance gains?

It really does look great tho

No hiccups or codes, and there shouldn't be from exhaust.
I want to say it revs a little easier, but I have no evidence.
I think I gained a few over the RacingLine setup, but again, no evidence.

Thanks, I am really happy with the way it turned out. It sounds fantastic.

My7thgen.org Facebook group have a couple clips.
I borrowed a better recording device to get clips this week, as the iPhone mic just can't pick up the bass accurately.

The owner of the company I am working with is in Vegas this week, so I will be working with him next week on pricing.
The only thing I know for sure now is under $1900.

Inquire about non-polished-stainless steel options. That might help drop the costs a bit. Looks great in any case! Excited to see where this goes!

Sounds nice! It sounds just as good as my motordyne setup, I think I might have a deeper tone and more rumble but its hard to tell from my phone. Its time to upgrade your tail lights and get the stillen front lip and you're all set!

I had a front lip, but a retread from a semi stole it after I ran it over on the highway.

Man our exhaust systems would've sounded sooo much better with a 6 speed or even a traditional automatic transmission!

These are 1/4 resonance tubes, aka J-pipes. They function differently than a helmholtz chamber. A brief summary of the difference is below.
The J-pipe generates a standing wave that is out of phase with the sound wave generated by the main run of the exhaust tube. These two standing waves cancel eachother out, reducing or eliminating drone.
A Helmholtz chamber is a sound wave trap. The helmholtz chamber diameter, depth, inlet size, and fill all make how it performs vary. The sound wave enters a chamber and then can not get out with a helmholtz. Helmholtz principle is used much more frequently in sound insulation.

Got some dyno pulls tonight. Very happy with the gains, but not as much with the cvt and the actual power put down.
The baseline run (red) is just an intake and muffler delete on an otherwise stock car. The modded run (green) has 20x9 wheels, Akebono big brakes, intake, stillen under drive pulley, and the dual exhaust.
Base 179hp, 158tq
Mod 218hp, 217tq
39 whp, 59 tq gained over the base.

The exhaust sounds awesome under load.

Very disappointed in the overall number for an engine rated at 290. That is a lot of drivetrain loss. The car has a lot of miles, so a fresh engine and transmission may put down better numbers. The gains are obvious though.

There has been time to clean up the baseline run, but the mod graph is as it was plotted without being cleaned up. It kept wanting to drop down a gear and not hold till 6.2k for these runs.

you do realize for a true dual exhaust you would have to swap your exhaust manifold which would require pulling your engine out? not worth the cost and pita to pull the VQ35DE when you can buy a bolt on Borla, stillen, magnaflow for under $1k
