Radio + cold weather = bad

We have finally had a few cold nights. Twice now in the last week my (2011 S) radio and amber screen have not worked until the car warmed up. Yesterday it was fine after it sat out in the sun for about 20 minutes. The amber color is still there, just no read out. Also no audio output either.

Anyone experienced this? I just don't understand how this may be temperature related.

Possibly a bad solder joint or connection. Metal expands as it warms. I have a similar problem with the status display LCD in the center of my gauges. It went out early last winter and did not work until it warmed up in spring and all of the sudden it started working. I won't be surprised if it goes out again this winter. Next time it goes out see if you can get at the connectors or the LCD unit. It' is also possible one of the components is heat sensitive and failing.
