Transmission not shifting correctly
Transmission not shifting correctly
2010, 3.5L V6, 150k miles
So, hard to describe this problem. While driving my transmission will change gears but not always correctly. For instance let's say I'm going 60 miles an hour on the highway, and I mash the gas, it won't downshift and accelerate quickly. I will just slowly go a little faster and eventually can get up to 75 let's say. Or alternatively, if I'm starting at zero and I accelerate it will not shift into a higher gear as I accelerate. I can get up to 25 miles an hour, and if I take my foot off the gas the car will decelerate very quickly like it's still in first gear. (I know that it's a variable transmission and there are no gears . But you get the idea. ) But once I accelerate up to 30, it'll shift up and be fine. It's kind of intermittent.
It's never done this before, I've had the car since 50k miles , and this is definitely some new weird thing that the transmission is doing. Any ideas on what this could be?
Thanks!
Susie

not sure tbh. I had a scheduled 90 K mile service done I believe, but that was a while ago and I'll have to look at my records and see. thank you though, that is a good place to start I suppose. I change the oil regularly with synthetic, but I didn't know there was CVT oil to do as well.

I have a 2010 Maxima with 164,000 miles on it and I've changed the CVT fluid at 110,000 miles. The fluid changed how the CVT "shifted" but it wasn't a huge difference. I know exactly what you are describing. Mine been doing it for years. I've had no problems with it and it doesn't concern me. I think it's just that it's one of the first vehicles Nissan made with the CVT so it's one of those weird kinks. I have to drive cross country in a few months for work and i am not worried about driving my Maxima. If that gives you and idea of how much it's not a concern to me.
