p0430 on 7th Gen

09 SV with 405,000 miles. The p0430 (Bank 2 catalyst efficiency below threshold) code is occurring about once a week now. The older gen forums mention everything from O2 sensors to the Cat itself.

Anyone have this issue on a 7th gen yet?

Thanks

Lt

Not yet. Occurs every other month so far. I clear it as it occurs, wait a month or three and repeat. I am sure I will get a wild hair as the weather cools and dig a bit deeper then.

Yes please let us know what you find, I so far haven't had any CELs come on in mine or my wife's Maximas but everytime I drive these cars I find myself always looking at that dash for a light to come on..lol

Well got the bank2 cat replaced as well as the downstream O2 sensor. Looks like problem solved.

I do, My daily driver is a 2010 SV and my wife's daily driver is a 2012 premium with the panoramic roof, back up camera etc, it has a few extra perks that mine doesn't.

Nope, I have had "poor experiences" working on exhaust in the past (eating rust, breaking bolts, drilling out broken bolts) so I outsourced this one! Because it was Bank Two, it would have been relatively easy to do, but hey, there was a Meineke right across the street from the office so more money than time!

My question was to MaximusN8, I know your have 1 Maxima that will probably continue to outlast both of his and mine.

How's your CVT with that kind of mileage? I noticed today that as I'm slowing down right before coming to a complete stop I hear a slight whining noise, but not on acceleration only before coming to a complete stop. Definitely something I gotta keep an eye on!

I think as long as you don't push hard on this tranny (sub 3k rpm) and change fluid and filter on 20k to 30k miles intervals you are likely to be ok. Now for the whining, many weird things happen when it's subzero F outside. And this transmission needs A LOT of time and driving to reach operating temp (160F +). Whining can be also related to belt, power steering or alternator (or even wheel bearing or drive shafts).

On another note, I seldom use Ds mode, just came from a short spiritual drive and to my suprise and opposite to what I read around this forum, transmission seems to "shift" faster and earlier (which is something I like especially in cold temp). Using the stick to up and down "shift" is also fun by its own, giving me the nostalgic feeling from my previous beloved 2002 6 speed to some extent.
Damn I wish my 7th gen came with paddle shifters on the steering wheel! When I was shopping for one, never found the 7th gen I was looking for with paddles!. Still I love my 09!

Man I hear ya on that! My wife has the paddle shifters in her Maxima, I would have loved to have that on mine, I take care of both of these cars faithfully. CVT fluid and filter changes every 30K! I live in Massachusetts so the cold weather is brutal to be out there servicing the cars, I can't wait until the Spring time comes along! I'm also paranoid that the CVTs on one of these cars is going to give out at any given moment so I'm ALWAYS listening for whining sounds or noises from the CVT.

I had that code not too long ago, maybe two months ago and cleared it and it never came back again.....my muffler fell off too not too long ago......NYC salt and cold made it rust at 190k original ......luckily I was going slow when it happened and was able to stop and pick it up and throw it in the trunk and get it welded back on, thank God I didn't kill anybody if it happened on the highway, or loose it for good and have to buy a new one.
