OEM lug nuts keep going bad

Hi all,
So my wife's 2012 Nissan Maxima is on it's second set of OEM cone style lug nuts, the first set had to be replaced because they went from a 21mm and swelled up to a 22mm, it's been a year later and it has happened again the lug size is now a 22mm. I paid $130 from the dealer for the first replacement only for the same problem to happen again. Has anyone else had issues with cone style OEM lugs swelling and are there any aftermarket options anyone can please recommend?

Thank you

The OEM lug nuts have a metal covering that gets distorted when you take them on/off enough times. I could not imagine paying $130 for a set of lug nuts. Get yourself a set of solid (one piece) chrome acorn style lug nuts. No covering to get distorted and fall off.

Gorilla and McGard are both fine products. About $1 for each lug nut.

M12 x 1.25. Hex Size: 19 or 21 mm

I ordered these back in 2014 and they are still going strong. McGard 65554CN Chrome SplineDrive Wheel Installation Kit (M12 x 1.25 Thread Size) - for 5 Lug Wheels
Granted they are around $100+ but 6 years later, still good.

Yes I've heard about this metal covering on the OEM lug nuts, My 2010 Maxima has different OEM lugs than my wife's 2012. I would like to get her the same ones as mine but the difference is what concerns me..

They are probably getting water inside. Once the temp drops,it freezes and expands. This happening over and over again will definitely make them bulge. A lot of these lugs have spaces or gaps on the inside. After you change em, save a couple and cut them in half with an angle grinder or something. See what the surprise is on the inside

Yeah, I had the same problem with my Maxima and my F150. The lugnuts on my truck had water that froze in them and my Maxima had the outer shell come off from a shop using an impact gun to tighten them down.

I have a 2016 Maxima and had the same lug nut problem. Even if I purchased new, expensive OEM lug nuts, the problem would return in a few years. I have 40K on my car, and rotate every 5K, so my OEM lug nuts were deformed from normal use.

Dorman Products...https://www.dormanproducts.com/...makes sold, one piece chrome lug nuts that look identical to OEM, plus they are a quality product.

The cheapest I found was on Amazon, a box of 10 for $39.39, and free delivery if you have Prime. I put a set on my car, and am 100% satisified.

I'm amazed that Nissan continues to have such lousy OEM lug nuts...it is almost like they design them to be a normal replacenet item.

I have a Toyota and they use the same style lug nut. I was told it happens due to the use of an impact gun. I now only remove those lug nuts by hand and continue to use a torque wrench when putting them back on.
