Hello, have 2012 maxima, service engine light is on, but has no problem with car at all. Had the code read its p1217 Engine Coolant temp. I checked the coolant level (cool condition) and its way below the min level. Is this just just a case of low coolant level and need some top off ? I opened the radiator cap and i dont see coolant either) .As mentioned I don't have any issues right now. Any other way I should diagnose it ? Car has around 80000miles. Thanks !

 

I believe the car already has diagnosed it for you, P1217. You verified checking coolant levels, which are extremely low. Add correct coolant to the proper levels, see if the problem is solved.

 

Look by the front passenger wheel well if you see any antifreeze leak.

last year, I noticed the hose going to the motor was loose - remove wheel and inner lower fender guard to expose the pump and hose.

easy fix for me: wrapped the head of the hose w electrical tape and stick back in. Problem fixed.

antifreeze doesn’t evaporate, but leak out somewhere …
