2016 Maxima official release photos
Here is what other real world folks are saying besides orgers that will tend to be a bit more biased for it, not the most glowing comments. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ma_first_look/
People are already calling the GT-R's DCT slower when compared to other DCTs. Tech has changed so much in the past few years and most importantly- we are spoiled rotten consumers.
CVT is bleh- but reserving judgement (trying to) until performance numbers are posted. I'd anticipate a 0-60 of 5.6/7 and a quarter close to 14 flat

Pretty much, you're right.Either it's in my head or in an e46 M3 lol...that 6MT was amazing, best I've ever driven to this day.
^ As for people calling the GTR DCT tranny slow, is absurd. That tranny is good enough to launch a 3800lbs car to 60 in 2.7sec so those people are just nuts

Exactly! At the end of the day, it will be an impressive vehicle and a vast improvement over the previous.

Believe me, the 7AT in the G37 is nothing to lust after. Maybe it was in 2009 when it was new, but people really hate on that transmission. Slow to shift, clunky, loud, etc. Flappy paddles are useless, and the ratchet shifter is only slightly more entertaining. And as much as I love my 6MT, it's not the best manual transmission, either. I already trashed one clutch slave cylinder, and live in fear of having that pedal drop to the floor again.
Even if I upgrade the clutch pedal assembly (there is an aftermarket), and upgrade to a short-shifter (there's an aftermarket here, too), I still don't expect that car to drive and shift as nicely as BMW.
That greener grass is in your head, Stillwell.

^ Very good points guys.
As for GTR, you're right others have caught up but..Just wait till the next gen comes out. Porsche will surely be stunned again...remember the GTR was bested only by the Bugatti Veyron in 0-60 acceleration for a while there and it only has a V6, not a W16 lmao
Not to derail thread with GTR stuff, the new Maxima I'm sure will be an improvement over 7th gen, and really for a mass produced car thats pretty much all you can ask for. I'll be test driving it this summer, and contemplating trading the 7th gen for it, considering our new 7th gen should only have a few thousand miles by then...might be worth it to throw a bit of extra cash down for the 8th gen

I'm curious what the new site banner is going to look like at the top of the Org. That old image of mine has been sitting pretty now for 5 years. Time to retire it now that we know what the 8th Gen is all about.
95VQ30, you've got image skills, right? Was that you? Been so long...

I think Nissan is struggling with consistency when it comes to the Maxima. They have to better identify with its buyers in order to create forthcoming and successful designs. Honda has done an excellent job with maintaining a loyal following to the Accord.
Me personally I grew up with an excellent 3rd and 5th gen and then attended college bought a 6th gen expecting the same results but didn't happen so I ended up buying a M and haven't looked back since. Who knows the 8th gen may turn out to be succesful but after dissapointing results with the 6th its pretty hard to say if i'll ever buy a Maxima again until I see what I saw back then it terms of reliablity, craftmanship and quality.

I think the 8gen will look amazing once we get the "V motion" thing painted, dark tint and some dish tires with a modest drop. Despite the majority of the internet's remarks, I am liking it more the more I look at it. The cabin is top notch.

Maybe I can try something when I get a decent block of free time- I've been so busy with work

I know that is a pre-pro model, but is there supposed to be something in between the dash vents and door panels, or are the gaps actually that HUGE?

That things actually killing me on gas but its worth it and better than my 6th gen so I put up with it. Maybe Infiniti will make something out of the 8th gen Max.

Either put up with 18 mpg or go go back to $9000 in repairs and headlights going out on the highway or break down at a red light while the birds laugh at you. didn't think i'd ever buy a Nissan again

Now that is a sharp looking vehicle. I have spent hours scouring the internet for photos of the 8th gen. One thing is clear to me - On silver or white Maximas, the grill bar is barely noticable, as it blends with the car color. On dark colored cars, the grill bar stands out. Some will like that, while some will not. But painting or covering the grill bar either black or the body color of the car is not difficult. Anyone using the grille bar (tooth) as an excuse to not like this car is not allowing his brain to be open to the possibilities.
For what its worth, we had a gun metallic 7th gen and now have the silver. Its no contest, the silver looks way more sexy and sporty.
Thanks for the input, it will definitely be between silver and gunmetal when I order my 8th gen. I will just need to see them next to each other!

BluFlame Dude you have a M too man that things a beast right? man you know whats messed up once you drive one you get hooked that's why I got mine. I went to the dealership with Lexus GS 08-12 and seeing nothing else. He showed me that M I didn't want it but I drove it and was like oh hell yeah give it to me.

I agree. Would like to have seen some kind of sliding cover for the cupholders. Then again, in reality, everyone who has a car with said covers for their cupholders tend to leave them open anyways instead of closed. Easier to leave them open to drop our cell phones and big gulps into whenever we want!
The more I look at that Brilliant Silver, the more it appeals to me. 'Hides' the chrome bar in the grill, and makes it look like everything on the car is either silver or black. I think silver just tied white as my color.

The only posts that were not flagrantly incorrect were from those delusional folks who still equate a sports sedan to manual only (that is incorrect) or think the CVT is very unreliable (it is not), or do not have the intellectual capacity to understand the grille bar can be either blacked out or painted to match the car color (it can).
But then this is the normal reader reaction to many subjects on the internet. These type come crawling out of the woodwork with almost anything new. React first, then check later.
But they are entitled to think any way they want. Free country. No law requiress posters to like any particular car style, or have correct knowledge of what they speak.

^ LOTH you know that's the typical internet reaction. Plus, I'm sure there are plenty of kids on there who can't afford any Maxima or even a beater Civic.
I really love that interior. Only thing I question is Nissan's claimed inspiration from an aircraft cockpit....BMW has been doing the titled cockpit style at least since the 80's

Wow. I'm on board now after seeing those motor trend photos.
It's funny, you see a lot of the typical: the most current generation owners (7th gen) hating on the new generation model just because their car is no longer the newest one, you see people coming out of the woodwork in every which direction with their opinion.
I really was like "meh" about it, but after seeing those up-close high resolution pictures of the SR model in gunmetal? Wow. Oh yeah, which brings me to my next point: gun metallic > silver and every other color for that matter, IMO. If you want to give your car that mean, daunting look then there's no other color.
I will say the wheels suck. 18's, 19's. All of them. So it's aftermarket on those bad boys, but other than that? What a beautiful machine.
