Anyone know if rumors of a 2016 Nissan Maxima NISMO are true??

I was doing some research online on the 2016 Nissan Maximas (reviews, pricing, etc.) because I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one when I came across a couple of sites which state that there's a good chance that Nissan might come out with a NISMO version of the 2016 Maximas.. Anyone know if this is true? Or have any insight on this topic? Thanks..

I have heard nothing concrete from Nissan. I know there were lots of mags and emags talking about the possibility of a NISMO Maxima last fall and into the winter. Those articles are still out there on the net, but it may be that ship has sailed. I really don't know. I would possibly give a little credence to recently written stuff, but would ignore things published more than a few months ago.

A nismo maxima is the most logical since it's the flag ship. There's rumors and concepts of a nismo Sentra coming out soon, if you look at that you can picture what the maxima might look like. Name: 2AB30703-3D5A-4325-895B-2805B0DB3F98.jpg

I know Nissan wants to use the NISMO name on more of their models, so it would seem stupid to me to not offer a NISMO Maxima. The flagship sedan of the Nissan line should definitely be given the NISMO treatment.

at the NYAS i asked the product mgr about nismo maxima or even some nismo accessories and he was like..."we'll think about it".

then i told him that Toyota TRD got a nice range of equipment for their cars...then he came back and told me look at their sales numbers for their cars and then look at the maxima numbers.

so it sounds like if you want a nismo version of the 8th gen...better start buying 8th gens and they will invest some $ back into the product.

For me, if it says that a NISMO version for the Maxima is "under consideration" and to "stay tuned and be hopeful" for a NISMO version of the Sentra, then we are talking 9th generation or later, if that, before a NISMO Maxima is available. Bummer.

What I do know, though, is that I would be PISSED if I were to buy a new Maxima and then a year or two later a NISMO version is released.

That's just how things work unfortunately. Manufacturers will tend to release special versions a few years in to help keep sales from falling too soon. Usually paired with a mid-cycle refresh.

This is very common practice. They do they to force you to bring back your new purchase, get nothing on trade in, and buy the new and better version.

Polaris did this in 08, released the RZR, then in 09 released the RZR-S.

I drove a Platinum a few weeks ago. While there are a few small details I don't care for, the CVT, driving dynamics, seating position, wind noise, etc. all are dramatically improved over my 7th gen.

Doubt it

NISMO is so tiny of a department compared to the likes of BMW Toyota etc

Hmm so basically SR + body kit? So it'd be like a souped up 2016 Nissan Maxima SR Midnight edition!?!?! That is very disappointing.

Likely no hope for a MT or DCT model due to R&D cost

If it doesn't have AWD, I'm not interested.

Any speculation about what would be done is just that, speculation. Don't believe anything you read unless it comes from the only reliable source: Nissan.

Not gonna happen, chassis isn't built for it.

My guess would be more horsepower is a given, as no nismo has been released without an increase in horsepower. My guess would be 20-25 extra ponies, some more torque, and most of the improvements, I think, would come from suspension and handling. There would also be exterior upgrades, but that is what I would expect from a Nismo version.

GT-R is transaxle, so that wouldn't specifically work here. Other than that, Nissan doesn't really have a DCT they could use, which means more development and suppliers, which means more $$$$$$.

Any NISMO version would most likely use the CVT, however, they might try to use the 7AT from the Infiniti line if they did choose to go with something other than the CVT.

The 7AT is RWD configuration only.

Yes, I know, thats why I said it would most likely be the CVT, but if they were to try a different transmission, they would most likely go for tweaking the 7AT. However, I don't see them dropping the CVT, if there is a NISMO version.

NISMO probably won't happen... The numbers won't add up in Nissan's favour
