Heads Up: No Maximas are able to be driven off the lot as of now
I have been following this thread since it started. A co-worker went to a dealerships (Pohanka Nissan) over the weekend to test drive the Max. All the Maxima's were taken off the lot. A salesman came out and told him there was a recall and they were not allowed to sell any. Salesman also told him that the issue was the headlight after he spoke to the service department. I searched my VIN over the weekend and did not find any active recalls on the car.
Something is definitely up. Hopefully this memo on the 27th will give us some answers.

Just spoke to a Service manager. He confirmed the 27th as the date Nissan will release more info to them. If you are an owner keep a look out on a letter from Nissan. He also told me that based on the recall number from Nissan it is a software update (maybe the Nissan Connect issues will be fixed). As far as cars being taken off the lot, he told me this is standard practice for any new vehicle that has a recall on it.
I would suspect Nissan is monitoring this thread. If you are researching this car online you will end up here, so they would be crazy not to be here also.
I just sent an email to autonews.com, it will be interesting if they report anything. They have a Nissan reporter.

Nissan halts some Maxima sales
Could this have to do with window rattle?
I've had the issue, one other person in this group has had the issue and Vishnu Jayamohan was asked about it last week in a recorded interview

"...The stop-sale order covers only certain specific cars, identified only by their vehicle identification numbers rather than by an entire trim package.
Company spokesman Steve Yaeger said Wednesday that it is not yet clear what the precise quality concern is or how many Maximas will be involved..."
Things that make you go hmmm

The window rattle would be something not tied to trim package or model level, so that might explain why the stoppage is by VIN number instead of model type or trim package. This is the only problem I have heard of with the 8th gen so far. That is impressive, when we consider that everything in this 8th gen is new.
Mine came with a bad battery which was causing the Drive Computer and Trip Odometers to reset by themselves, so that could be it too. It could be any one of a number of things. Several have been mentioned on other threads. We'll find out for sure on the 27th.

Here goes. Bought a 2016 Maxima SR on the 15th. was happy and pleased with literally every aspect of the car till this weekend. Seemed there was some hesitation / jerking motions while driving the car. This is my third Max (2004, 2010) and 2nd with CVT.
Since I'm an engineer and like all other on this Forum, dig cars. Decided to see what this issue was about. Went out this morning and put the car onto an extremely high grade hill, started up the hill and kept the speed at 25 MPH and took my foot off the accelerator. The CVT began hunting for a proper ratio to settle in on and could not. The car started "bucking". Sooo pissed! Didn't throw a code either!!
Called my go to service guy at the dealer, explained it all and he said bring it in. Get there, explain my issue and off he goes to the Service manager behind glass doors. They come out and hand me rental car keys and all they could tell me was that i'll hear back from Nissan on the 27th! Unbelievable.
The bigger issue is this dealership received the stop sale on the 18th and contacted know one! Not one phone call in the sake of Safety.

Holy Crap!!! What a horror story. They delivered it to you and then took it away!! And now you're stuck with a rental and no information.
Cvt
Why they don't offer a 6 speed manual in it, since they have one sitting on the shelf that mates to a 3.5, is a mystery to me....as is the fact that an SR can't be had with a sunroof and that the best looking interior color, Camel Tan, is only available on an SR. Odd.
I stopped by my nissan dealer today and saw that they had also taken all their new maximas off the lot besides one.. I asked the salesman that I have been working with why that one maxima was still out and he told me the one that was out there was actually being used by the dealers son and that since nissan didnt give them any information other than that they couldnt sell them at the moment they let him keep driving it. They said they have been joking with him saying 'eh, we'll just let you keep driving it to find the issue lol hopefully its not something too serious.
Wow at these stories (infomat, CVT etc etc), this is sorta starting to turn out to be as bad of a launch as the Q50 in which most all of us know about. NMFG can't afford to keep having bad launches on key products....

Man. I was just about to pull the trigger on a white or Bordeaux platinum (still on the fence
), this weekend? The dealer told me that they had pulled one off of their lot and that was only due to the infotainment system acting up. He claimed that was what the recall was. Now I'm wondering if I should hold off.

Let's all not make any assumptions now until we actually hear what the deal is.
No assumptions at all, based on facts that we are seeing from various sources/people. Murano is not a key product, its "niche" vehicle in the lineup almost as niche as the Z with Z just having much more known name. Most key product for Nissan is the Altima and it launched for '13 with a host of issues with the CVT, key for Infiniti the Q50. It launched as a '14 with a host of infomat issues many still not resolved to this day.

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! There is ONE reported incident of each, and this as bad as the Q50 launch... WOW! Nothing has been confirmed and everything else has been isolated occurrences, so far. Wait for the recall.
Where did I say it is as bad as the Q50....What I'm saying is I hope it does not end up being that way.........
To even compare it to the issues the Q50 had is a huge stretch at this point.
I wrote and e-mail to the sales manager that sold me the car and told him that it had come to my attention that sales were being suspended on Maximas and that there was a possible safety issue with the car. I told him that if there was anything that could possibly affect the safety of my family when driving the car that I would just park the car and await their instructions.
He answered back an hour later and told me that the Service manager had checked the vin on my car and that there were no concerns and that I should continue to drive my car as usual.

Okay. Just got back from the dealer. Drove a Coulis Red with beige interior. Very sweet car. Gave him the VIN of the vehicle that I wanted (at another dealer). He said he could get it for me. I asked the question about the sales hold and he said that they had received an email about it. He said that he could still sell me the car, but I should wait until after next week's announcement by Nissan regarding the issue. He said they do not know what the specific issue was. I told him that I would wait.

This could be like a lottery in reverse.
