Post 16' Maxima SL ...no factory installed HID headlights?

Good day Maxima forums!

I'm fairly new to these forums. Just picked up a 16' Maxima SL over the weekend and I'm loving it so far!

One thing I'm upset about, is the SL model doesn't come with factory installed HID headlights (even though the daytime LED lights look awesome! ).

Does anyone know where my best bet is to purchase the HIDs for my Max (whether from the dealer / reliable manufacturer / etc.)?

Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Which HID bulb did you end up getting?

Did you install yourself? If so, was it fairly simple?

Do you have pics you can post of the finished product?

Thanks!

I plan to install them Friday. I have install HID's from them on my past two cars. Everything is labeled on the HD Wiring Harness. You really can't screw it up. There are install videos and instructions on their website. The hardest part is going to be removing the bumper and finding a location to mount the ballasts cleanly.

Got it.

I'm not planning on making a purchase for HIDs for at least another week or two.

Can you post pics here of your install once you finish it Friday?

Which bulbs did you purchase?

TRS is great but definitely on the expensive side. If you want to drop that much money id go with them.

I'm running alpha hids from here:www.alphahid.com that were 79$ shipped, pretty high quality, ac ballasts 3 year warranty. much higher quality feel in my hand than my old ebay kit, thats for sure.

Thanks for both of your responses.

@mpbclutch33 - would love to see your before / after pics of your setup once done Friday... will definitely use your feedback / pics to determine purchase of my HIDs in the coming weeks.

@maxxing - I like your option presented as well...do you have pics of your install or just your car with the HIDs running to post here to see?

I was surprised to see weak yellow headlights on my wife's 2014 Altima, and couldn't believe the new Max came with anything less than HID's.

If the stock lights aren't any better than the ones on the Altima, I consider them dangerous at night!

I believe the only 16' Max models that carry's HIDs factory installed is the SR & Platinum...

I traded in a 13' Altima 3.5 SL and I had factory HIDs...which surprises me too, why not all 16' Maxima models don't have HIDs...oh well!

They all have LED DRLs. The S, SV and SL have halogen headlights. The SR and Platinum have LED low beams. I suppose the fog lights and high beams are halogen.

Pretty dumb on Nissan's end...paying a higher premium for a Max... the S thru Platinum should have HIDs...

if anyone else has suggestions for aftermarket HIDs for the 16' Max, please post away...thanks everyone!

What are the 7th gen SV sport bulbs considered? HID or halogen?

4th halogen all
4.5 halogen all (HID's where making there way these years)
5th halogen all
5.5 HID all
6th halogen, HID optional packages
6.5 halogen, HID optional packages
7th halogen, HID optional packages
7.5 halogen, HID optional packages
8th halogen, no HID, LED on optional packages

Premium head lighting should have been consistently standard on all Maxima's since 02 since that's when they started the move upscale that year.

You can also check out the group deal section and see if there's any good deals there. The buyers also post their opinion on the product and installation there as well, which an help you make your decision.

In terms of the installation, you may end up being frustrated at the fact that it may be a pain in the rear just to access the bulbs. Finding a spot to mount the ballast/ignitor is not too bad. Rest is a simple plug and play.

If you need help with installing the setup, you can find many articles in the previous gen sections as well as checking out youtube.

Hope this helps.

Well tried to install my TRS kit on Friday and it didn't go so smooth. I dropped the bumper, ran the wires cleanly, mounted the ballasts and went to test it and only the drivers side worked. Triple checked all my connections. Called and Emailed TRS and still waiting to hear back. I will say, I have used them on my last 2 cars and always had issues. I hear everywhere online that they are the best so that is why I keep going back to them, but I think I am done if they can't help me fix the problem. Maybe try Diode Dynamics next. Idk. The baby woke up so I had to abort and put my bumper back on. I was able to install my Opt7 LED H11 5000k Fog Light Bulbs.

6000k H11 kits from Amazon. Install took about 20 mins each side, plan on getting a little scapped up as it is a little tight. You will need 3 kits 2 just for foglights. Also when it comes to fogs you will need to up your fuse to a 25A from the 20A. Cause it will blow. Any other questions just PM me.

Where was the fuse for the fogs located? And for the install, did you drop the bumber ?or go thru the wheel well?

Went thru the wheel well. No need to drop the bumper. Fuse is located in cabin underneath steering wheel.

Do I still need to go thru the wheel well if I wanted to change the turn signals? How about the DRL?

You cant go thru wheel well to get turn signals out, you have to go under the hood. Or take the headlights out completely. Under hood method is tight as all get out... You might want to use a lil kid, that's what I did as there hands are good for tight areas.

I went to there site, but they don't have a list for what fits what car or model,so how did you know the H11 kit was a plug and play, can you show when finished how it fit and what you had to do to fit it?

Check out DDMTUNING.COM. Been running these slim ballasts for years and installed on many friend cars. They have lifetime warranty and even though a ballast will go out every couple years, they have always sent me a replacement ballast.I think the slim ballast kits start at $35. I bought a set of their premium ballasts for a friend's car and they were definitely brighter than the slim ballasts, but twice as expensive.

My headlights and fog lights leds

Hello., I was waiting to get my lights installed in my 2016 Nissan Maxima. I ordered hids for my headlights 5000k and leds for my fog lights. The installation for my headlights was very simple and fog lights too, just that i removed the bumper to access the light bulbs better.
Here is the link where i got them from in case someone may be interested. http://vanquishauto.com/catalogsearc...+nissan+maxima

Pictures i took last night.

Fog Lights look great. I am looking into a new Max but I read on here the LED low beams are weak. I had LED low/high beams in my Lincoln and they were amazing. If I can get into the Max I will get the SL and just put the ZXE bulbs in it. I have them in my Escape and they 100 times better than the standard halogens.

Made the switch to Enlight Automotive HID kit, all i can say , I should have been did this and Nissan should be ashamed of sending out Maximas with Halogen's. Better shine on the road than Nissan LEDS also, Imo. Followed the video on youtube. It took me about 3 1/2 hours( Was watching the video as i did it ) and i was moving at a slow speed in the dark.

Fog lights are next

Thank Enlight Automotive, your product is dope

Close up, has blueish tint but shines bright white on the road

Big difference with the look, worth the time and price

Without the fogs, i find myself driving without the fogs now

This is how it looks shining on the road, notice no blue tint

Maxima Platinum purchase

Just joined after purchasing my used 2017 Maxima Platinum. I've had my maxima for about six weeks now. It's an awesome car but I have noticed a few thing missing not fixed properly so I'm on the hunt for parts. Anyone know an online parts seller of OEM parts new/used that is reputable?

Has anyone replaced their DRL LED's with the "Switchback's" ? I need the OEM drivers side, one of the LED card's is faulty or broke. So I would like to purchase if anyone has replaced and don'rt have a need for the OEM.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is the cover on the underside of the trunk floor. I went to a local Nissan for the part's and they said it would be $1,214.67 and the whole underside including the truck pan would have to be removed and installed (cut / welded).
I don't think the parts person knows what i mean cause the cover is help on by 4/5 bolts. But he wouldn't accept what I was saying and said it is what he told me.

Anyone know what the name of this cover is?

Does anyone know if there is an adjustment for the radio reception? My car has poor reception when driving around trees and just dies when I pull in the garage. It's currently in HD mode, much worse if not in HD.

Another part I am looking for is the foam damper that goes on the front bumper (on the metal bumper part).
