Help on LED vs HID

Ok my friend has these laying around and I'd like to have these installed on my SL since the headlamps are only halogen. Don't know much about lighting and HID vs LED etc so want to make sure these are good bulbs to put in. I tried googling the numbers on the white sticker but no brand was found. What are your thoughts based on the photos?

Hids are great love them led is better quality now but you will not get the 8000k color is a lot of work to change the bulbs so you have to make sure you get some great quality so you don't have to do it every few months that just me i got hids on all my cars but it takes me 5 minutes to replace any bad ballast or bulb my maxima has led from factory so all i did is to upgrade all my lights to led

Do not even think about dropping LED bulbs in headlights. Would be even worse for fogs.

Check this attachment.

No. My Platinum has factory LED low bean headlights and I have replaced the reverse lights and fog light bulbs with LEDs with no problems. Very bright and nice white color. LEDs produce very little heat compared to conventional bulbs. There is no reason to stay away from LEDs.

Yes there is a reason to stay away from LED bulbs. Aftermarket LED bulbs that are on sale today are no where near the quality of the OEM LED lighting systems found in new cars. HID is better and will produce more light. Stay away from LED for now. Here is proof and this is with one of those sh1tty Xantec ballast:

more proof against a halogen bulb:

Spend your money on a decent set of HIDs, a 50W kit will outperform about any aftermarket LED you can come up with.

I was talking about putting aftermarket LED bulbs in halogen headlight projectors (for example).

Difference being that OEM set ups design the housing around the LED(s) used. But HID projectors in comparable size still perform better. Not saying that LED projectors aren't good or good enough but they aren't really there, yet.

You have ballasts setup correctly?

I do want a nicer color temperature to match the daytime running lights. I know the majority of LEDs are inferior but what do you think about these particular ones?

Also, those of you who went with HID kits, which one did you go with? How difficult was it to mount the ballasts in the Maxima and where did you mount them?

What do you think of this one? (H11 of course)

Went back in your history and it looks like you got the H11B 5500K version of these:

Also, I'm assuming you chose 50W vs 35. Which harness did you select? And do you have any pics of the lights after install?

Looks like a very clean install! Thanks for the pics. It appears the 5500k color temp matches the DRLs pretty well too. Just need to know if I should go 35W or 50 and HD relay vs Canbus

I went with the 35w and that is more than enough light! 50w will decrease the life of your components. And I went with the HD Relay. No Issues.

I've had 50w for a good couple of years and never had issues with components failing prematurely.

Amazon has a lot of complete kits cheap, like 70 bucks, the one I loked at and liked was the kensun HID conversion kit "slim Ballasts" H4 (9003) lo-beam Xenon / Hi Beam Halogen 6000k diamond white, but they don't have it to fit the 2016 max,can you show me the complete kit like that one for the max and price. thanks pete

The Kensun does fit the 16 Maxima. Just select "H11" instead of H4.

Thanks,if you go to there year selction chart, like they want you to do,it stops at 2013. Does our 16 platinums come with HID bulb already? If so why are they pointing at the ground,it appears as though there is a dark shad going half way down the windshield on low beam, and only way to see when in a down hill type drive is on high beam.

Honestly I have no idea what you're talking about regarding the shadow half way down the windshield. As for the model/year selection of your car on Amazon, do not trust their system to tell you what will fit and what won't. Amazon is not a car parts store.

If you have the Platinum maxima, your car has LED factory installed. None of the 2016 Maximas come with HID. The lower end models and SL have halogen. If the LEDs are not working well for you, there may be some issue with yours particular since I haven't heard of this problem with others who have SR & Platinum models. Otherwise, if yours don't have a problem and you still want brighter, you can always just purchase and install aftermarket HIDs like the ones I mentioned previously, although I'd recommend a higher quality brand such as The Retrofit Source/Morimoto.

I currently have HIDs installed... Probably one of of the 1st convert on here. But I just purchased LEDs for my 2015 Durango Limited and installed last night. Let me tell you....Wow! The brightness and throw from this brand is second to none! I'm converting my Max to LEDs! If only the damn DRLs weren't 4300k!

I can tell you right now based on this video, stick to either halogens or HID.

The LEDs ruin the output. You get a small blob of light in the center and the rest of the light scattered everywhere else. HID still has somewhat of a focused beam and cutoff.

People confuse glare and actual output. They think there's an improvement due to the glare making them look blindingly bright.

Different strokes for different folks!

I can tell you that my beam pattern looks nothing like the link provided. Mine looks as if it came with truck from the factory.

Just getting off the road for my first night drive and these lights light up everything I need them to light up. No oncoming high beams from people I'm sharing the road with from this "so called" glare that you would get from a BS HID kit in say a projector housing that's made for halogens.

Dont get me wrong... I love HIDs but what I don't like about HIDs is the headaches that are associated with them i.e. blown ballasts, bad bulb life, flickering, regardless the type of warranty that comes with them. It's an inconvenience.

At the end of the day we are sharing different experiences with various products. Everyone will have an opinion share them and live n learn from them.

Enjoy!

The proof is in the pudding. Have pics of your output? On a wall from 20-25ft?

My vehicle isn't on a treadmill chasing a wall from 20-25 ft away. That is for aiming purposes only. I'm sharing my observations off real world night driving based on both street and highway.

You can tell a lot from an output shot.. Not just for aiming purposes but okay! lol I guess the guy will just end up wasting his money. No biggie.

EDIT: Those OPT7 bulbs look like shielded high power chip style. You can see the output above in post #5. That's in a projector. Would be much worse in a reflector.

Does anyone know if the h11 bulb led will fit in our fog housing,i was going to change out my led low beam first, but I think I will give my fogs a upgrade from halogen to led, first before I do the low beams. Thanks
