The 8th gen seem to have a share of problems

Hey everyone, I have been reading the 8th gen post from time to time since I have been considering buying one but of course like most manufacturers have kinks to work out on first year model of the new generation. Since it has been 8 months since the release of the current generation, from what I have been reading, seem like there are more shares of issues that has been randomly acting up as what I read from your experience. What I don't get is why Nissan hasn't got it fixed since it has been eight months. The Altima doesn't seem to have that much of an issues versus the Maxima which has a boatload of mostly technical glitches like the Mercedes had issues back in the late 2000's trying to cram all kind of tech and software which later they literally had to remove a lot of software bugs. I sympathize you guys dropping over 30k on the Maxima when you do expect a lot from Nissan but I find Nissan being unacceptable neither being proactive nor reactive to the issues in a timely manner for what you guys have been paying for. Keep on posting on issues you guys have been experiencing lately additionally those who have bought one recently hopefully they finally resolve the issues by this summer since it'll be a year by then I should be ready to buy one otherwise, I'll have to go another direction with a different make. I still loving my 5th gen and been trouble-free since 2001.

Yea I live on post at Ft Campbell. I'm about 5 mins from work. Furthest I've gone in the car is Nashville so far. Most traveling is done in our other cars.

Holy cow. You weren't in a coma for several years or something? That is just unreal.

When your round trip to and from work every day is 60 miles like it is for me, that kind of low mileage is a pipe dream.

2100 miles on mine, have been hospitalized a lot lately so not racking up much for miles, but once I get back to work, well 95 miles a day will add up soon, only real problem, was wind driving hard rain got into the rail gutta that the pass. door sits into, there is a piece of weatherstrip there,to prevent sticking, but when the temp drops below freezing like it does here in Maine, well I could not open the door next day, when it was cold out,had to go inside and push hard to open,if it was any harder, well it would or ripped that weather strip off, other complaint is minor, but my pearl white platinum collects dirt along the lower door panels, and when going thru a drivethru car wash, that don't get washed froma human first along that edge, well it came out still dirty, not impressed, and one other, the seat memory 1 and 2 setting keep getting messed up. So I would say in am 99.9% happy, manit goes like a rocket for only 300hp and being this heavy, and handles very well for my kind of driving, but have fun driving in heavy snow with stock tires on!

Only three and a half months with my 2016, but so far there has been not the slightest hint of trouble of any kind. There are a lot of posters here, and so we will see problems reported. But the majority of folks are not having problems, but don't come here each day and report that they are not having problems. So that appears to magnify the amount of problems reported.

The problems I am having with mine are so minor that they don't make it any less of a fantastic car.

Only 150 miles on mine, but when I did the research it seemed like main issues were with sunroof and memory seating. I have an SR, so neither is applicable.

Hello everyone i am a new nissan owner. My issues are not mechanical but more knit picky. I have a base 2016 s maxima. I'm short 5'6 155lb and for some reason i cannot get comfortable in those seats(cloth material). I find myself struggling to feel comfortable DRIVING EVERYDAY its kinda of annoying i love everything about this car except for the seats im looking into some sort of memory foam to throw on top of them we will see.

Quit picking on the Maxima

I bought a Maxima in June, have 11,000 miles on it and have had zero problems. It's too bad that the people who don't have problems don't post on the internet. My guess is that they are the over whelming majority

Good post. Yes, the trouble free Maxima owners are in the majority, as evidenced by repair rating services with a large data base. But it is understandable that owners don't come here to state that their car did not have a rattle today, or that the windshield is not leaking water.

The problem I have is that those that do have problems tend to take the position that the 2016 Maxima is not a well-built car, and they will never buy another Nissan. That tells me they are not looking at the big picture. Every car model made by every manufacturer has some that give problems. That is reality.

You really need to be comfortable in your new car in order to enjoy it. The consensus among most auto testers who reported on this car is that it has some of the most comfortable seats they have sat in. I feel that way also. Have you tried all the seat settings? Particularly the seat bottom power height adjustment> And the extendable thigh support? I can raise myself till my head touches the seiling with the height adjustment. Or lower myself till I have trouble seeing over the steering wheel.

These seats are not cushy, and you may have been driving a car with cushy seats. Cushy seats are sort of on the way out, as most folks now seem to prefer a firm seat. Please keep trying all the adjustments before you put in memory foam, etc. But if all else fails, then try the foam and let us know how it works. I ask because the front passenger seat is low, and does not have a height adjustment, and my wife has trouble seeing over the dash or out the side window.

2 months and 3000 miles: Zero issues on a SV. Very impressed with all aspects with the exception of non programmable door locks.

Also bought mine in June and have reached 10,000 miles with no mechanical problems. I have had issues with Nissan Connect, which have been ironed out.

Well - just had my first issue. I was driving home from work yesterday, and the radio shut itself off. I was able to get it to come back on, but all my presets were gone, no NAV, and no XM. Today I notice that this happens every time I shut off the car.

Called the dealer (40 miles one way for me), they could get me in today, but because of the short notice no loaner would be available. Could be up to two hours I'm told. Stopped and said hi to the owner, and walked to a C-store for a soda and snack (about two blocks). By the time I got back, the service advisor told me it was ready. The SD map card had somehow gotten slightly dislodged, and re-seating it fixed everything, including restoring my radio presets.

Apparently, the tech had something similar a couple of weeks ago, and spent 3 hours on it before figuring it out. Because of that, it was the first thing he checked on mine.

Hopefully, my experience can save someone some time, maybe even a trip to the dealer.

Got my Platinum in August and have 1800 on it (500 from my wife borrowing it for a weekend wedding)...no issues. Love the car. My problem is I only have a 1.8 mile commute to work and haven't had time to take a road trip. Chomping at the bit for some time off in March when I will hit the road!

My situation is somewhat sililar to yours in that my wife and I are totally consumed with moving 35 years of stuff from one home to another, which is only six miles away. We alternate between the Maxima and her truck each day, and estimate we have hauled at least 75 trips with the car and 75 trips with the truck from the old home to the new one in the last five months. The only problem is getting things out of the trunk that we have wedged in when the trunk was already full, and getting things out of the back seat when they are wedged against the ceiling liner. I might as well be working for Allied Van Lines.

We eat at least one meal each day at a restaurant, and have three trips per week to the Post Office, two to the grocery, one to the County Administrative offices, two to the library, and frequent trips to Goodwill, Good Samaritans, the recycle center, Christian City, the landfill, etc, etc. So the Maxima is making many stops each day, sometimes around ten or so, so we are giving the starter, ignition system, battery, charging system, etc, a thorough workout.

So it saves settings to the SD card? huh, I had no idea. So can you take your SD card and put it in someone else's Maxima and have your settings transferred with you?

NO! I'm not sure how, but somehow the SD card is tied to the vehicle. They cannot be swapped between vehicles.

I'd actually seen this in a TSB before yesterday's experience.
