How long on you xm?
How long on you xm?
I just picked up a maxima yesterday and I have a free trial of xm radio. When it runs out, does it just turn off? I have friends with xm in their cars (not nissan) that were free trials and they still have the service and haven't paid for it and this is years later. Anyone know more about this with the maxima? Thanks.
When you're near your end of your 3 month trial, they will be calling you and just tell them you're not sure if you want to keep this service as you haven't had much time to test it. They'll extend it and if you're lucky like some people I know, they'll extend it indefinitely. My luck in previous vehicles they call again after another 3 months and they say thank you bye lol and gone goes my xm

Enjoy the first peaceful month, because, around the middle of the second month, the harrassment begins. You will get dozens of warnings . . emails, phone calls, snail mail . . . everything but drones outside your window, that your SiriusXM will soon be expiring. And that is the tip of the iceberg. I subscribed to (and paid for) three years of traffic/weather options, but not radio (I never listen to the radio). I though that would be it. But that was back in December, and I have gotten at least forty to fifty emails, phone calls and U..S. mailings since then, offering all kinds of gradually dropping rates. This past week, for the first time since Thanksgiving, there has been a letup in SiriusXM offers. Maybe peace is finally returning to my world.

I just received a call from SiriusXM offering 5 months of music for $24.82 (taxes included). Service will automatically cancel at 5 months. Less than $5 per month is not bad for a few extra channels of music!
I've had horrible experience with their sales and billing department back in the day and will never give them another cent.
My trial subscription just expired and one day it was gone. AFAIK the service sends a data packet with specific receivers to activate and deactivate so there's no real way to avoid deactivation.
Honestly, with cheap cellphone data plans and great streaming services that offer fake radio stations (e.g., Spotify), there's no point in Sirius XM unless you drive a lot where there's barely any reception or if you care about the non-music content

I let my trial subscription expire and if I choose SXM as radio source, it just goes to channel 1 (one) which is their preview channel. The weather data wasn't all that useful to me since I have a smartphone for radar and forecast (and I can obviously see the current weather), the traffic information did not update fast enough for a useful reaction based on the crazy traffic we have here in Houston, and there are only a few channels I liked. If they send me an offer for like 12 months for $20 I'd probably take it, but I don't miss it yet.
Back on April 2nd, I made a post that said that because I had not heard from Sirius for a week, 'peace might be returning to my world.' I was wrong. I have had 14 additional emails and three phone calls from Sirius since then (I saved the emails and logged the phone calls). They are absolutely relentless. Thankfully, at my old age, I see the offer, smile, and carry on. I have far too many things underway that I actually care about than to let trivialities such as endless Sirius offers bother me. Since I do not have a smart phone, I do love their travel/traffic/weather package, for which I paid $199 for a three year subscription. That is around 18 cents per day.
I've had XM for about 4 years now and I always get the 5 for $20/$25 (depending on what they're offering). I'll call once the subscription expires and tell them I want to cancel once they tell me the rediculously high price for 6 months or 1 year. I tell them I'd simply like to cancel and they'll counter offer 1 or 2 times before they give you the deal. I don't mind doing it at all (some people will find this a PITA, but not me) as I enjoy the XM service alot.
After my 3 month trial with the Infotainment system, I can't wait to see what I can get that for.
Regarding being bombarded by solicitations from them, I've never experienced that in the entire time I've been with them. They will only email me twice letting me know my sub. is about to expire in about 2 weeks. I've only provided my home number but have never received a call there. I've only dealt with emails and that's it. I feel bad for those who have had a different experience but as for me it's been great.

I don't understand all the negative comments about Sirius XM. There are 4 cars in my household and all receivers have subscriptions. Even with previous vehicles traded in, I never had an issue cancelling the service and getting a refund. But yeah, you can negotiate with them for a less expensive subscription plans.
But as mentioned, with Pandora and other streaming BT services, there are plenty of alternatives to Sirius XM. Personal preference really.
When the service is cancelled, a negative renewal packet is sent out, depending on when the receiver is powered on, it could miss the packet as it cycles around quite slowly. So it may take some time to receive it. Then by default, tunes to XM1.

As I mentioned earlier here, when my free XMSirius subscription ended Dec 18, I subscribed to three years of their travel/traffic/weather package, and have used that useful info many times. I told them I had no interest in the radio package. But, six months later, I am still getting around three or four emails every week, around one snail mailing each week, and around one phone call each week asking me to reconsider or to 'come back' to XMSirius.
I never used the radio during the free period, and certainly have no interest in paying for such service. For a month or so, I asked that these solicitations be stopped. Nothing changed, so I now simply ignore anything from XMSirius. But I think it is stupid of any company to harrass any current/prospective customer. Word gets around, and one unhappy customer can sometimes keep others away from doing business with a company.
I will continue using their travel/traffic/weather package, as it fills a clear need for me.
