Apple CarPlay from Maxima '17
1 Attachment(s)
From the research I've done, it appears that the only main difference between the 2016 Nissan Maxima Platinum & the 2017 version is that the '17 comes with Apple CarPlay.
CarPlay is essentially controlled through the main nav cpu and is launched by clicking a carplay icon there. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/maxima....2726b72092.png The Dashboard of a 2017 Nissan Maxima. Notice Apple CarPlay. Here's a video demonstration: http://www.screencast.com/t/Ggfo73unI QUESTION: After all of this, it is absolutely 100% clear that Apple's CarPlay was introduced to the '17 Maxima strictly via updated software. With that said, How can I get Nissan to run that same upgrade software patch on my 2016 Maxima? It should run fine considering that there isn't any hardware enhancements. Can anyone shed any insight here?? |
Oh god, here we go again! How many times do I nhave to tell everyone, its NOT A SW UPDATE!!!!! Its HARDWARE!!! 2016 is NO GETTING Car play....EVER!

Also, the mic installation is needed in addition to the main unit to invoke SIRI if we were to attempt to install on a 2016. Personally, I'm not really impressed with CarPlay's overall functionality to go through such an upgrade and yes, I have an iPhone.
Update: Also, from the information from the link "punkfs" just posted, it's $3K+ for the upgrade and as much as it might be a nice addition, it's not worth $3K. Personally, I'll pass. |
Not to start a flame war but nobody has proved that it's a hardware issue in the other 3 page thread either. One person states it but never outright proves it. They make a general statement to "trust" them. If you can't quantify anything, it makes it hard for me to "trust" what you are saying. If a part is superseded, doesn't mean it changed, just means there's a newer part in the chain as someone mentioned.
I still don't understand the new mic thing as I use the current mic to talk to Siri and she understands just fine. Someone will find a way around it, it will just take time. |

In reference to your inquiry, there is no upgrade available at this time. Although the IT system look similar to past model years the upgrade to CarPlay is more than just a firmware update. The upgrade would require: 1. New Head Unit 2. New Map Lamp with HD microphone 3. New USB port 4. Several WIRING Harnesses to accommodate new H/U, USB and HD microphone Be advised that a review of our system indicates the vehicle with the Vehicle Identification Number listed above is involved in the campaign as follows: 2013-16 - Maxima, Altima, Rogue, Murano OCS Reprogram Please contact your Nissan Dealer for an appointment to have the campaign repairs performed on your vehicle. These repairs are free of charge to you. |

They aka Dodge/Chrysler told us on our 2011-2014 Chargers that we could not just replaced the head unit to get Navigation if it did not come with it. They were wrong. They told us we could not get the SRT-8 performance pages by replacing the deck. Wrong again. I have several other examples too. And wasn't it Hyundai that did the software updates on their 2016's to add it? Might be a horse of different color, but was possible as they did or are doing it. So for those interested in this, keep pushing forward until you officially have exhausted all avenues, other than just info passed down. #ModOn |

Does the new max only have apple car play with the iphone or does it have android auto as well?
|
Apple car play only right now.
|
I seriously don't see why Android Auto and Apple Car Play couldn't work, even based off what is stated above.
We already have a MIC integrated with our Head Unit. I believe Nissan just doesn't want to spend time updating it. |
Simple answer they want money either you spend 3k on a new unit or you trade in your car.
|
Nissan needs to step up their tech Dept. As of now, they are the worst.
|
The cheap solution is to replace the unit with the pioneer app radio i just did one on my frontier and love it so far .
|
Does that affect the functionality of the dash screen as both worked together?
|
I don't know there is guys here the has replace the oem radio all ready any answers from them? Personally i will not replace my lol

I never could get any remotely confident answers, though. |
